Chapter Fifty-Four
Blake stood and watched the burial from a distance, not wanting to make a scene because he was late. Alice had noticed him right away, and as she walked towards him, Blake could only stare at her as she got closer. She wore a pair of black pants that were demure and sexy all at the same time. Her black sweater was tight fitting, but not so tight as to bring too much attention to herself. And, as always, her long golden locks of hair were shining brightly, even on this oh-so dreary and overcast day. She looked like an angel, and Blake was glad that she had made it to the funeral. Tess would have wanted her there.
Alice didn't seem too concerned over Holly's disappearance, and it helped to ease Blake's mind over the matter too. Alice was probably right, saying that Holly had gone off somewhere to be on her own for a while. Maybe even to finally admit to herself that she and Blake were over. The deal had been broken, the wedding called off. Blake had broken it himself, just by letting Alice into his home without Holly's permission. She had told him on Christmas that she never wanted him to see Alice ever again. Having Alice show up at the house seven months later was the final straw in Holly's back.
Blake was surprised when Wallace had come over, and even more surprised when Wallace had given him a handshake and a hug. But, what shocked Blake the most was when Wallace didn't put up a fight about Alice catching a ride home with him. Their fight the Monday after Christmas had made Blake think that even a wrong look at Alice would have sent Wallace to Blake's neck. Wallace was obviously protective of his woman, and Blake had no right to argue the case. He had been just as protective over Alice after her attack, so Blake could understand why Wallace was the same way now.
Blake waited for Alice to say her goodbyes to Hank, and took the time to wipe off his damp Harley and rev it up. Alice finally returned and saw his bike, her nose crinkled at the sight of it. Blake had no choice but to toss her a helmet and practically force her onto his bike. They were both in a hurry, both for completely different reasons. Alice had to catch her bus, knowing that every second she stayed in New Coven was an opportunity to be found. Blake had to get home and continue his search for Holly. Even though Alice had brushed it off as unimportant, Blake couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong.
Thankfully, the drizzle of rain had cleared, but it had still left the road wet and slippery. Blake waited until there was a break in the traffic and pulled out from his parking spot. He drove slowly, knowing that Alice was uneasy about the entire situation. Feeling the cool salty breeze blow through his suit, and Alice's arms wrapped in a death grip around his waist, Blake smiled as they made their way through the streets of New Coven.
A black SUV with out of state plates pulled up behind Blake's Harley, revving it's own engine in displeasure. Blake was going under the speed limit, for Alice's sanity, and the driver behind him obviously didn't like it. Blake motioned for the SUV to go around several times, but the SUV stayed right behind him. This was not what Blake needed today. Almost about to give up and pull over, Blake was forced back onto the road as another SUV cut up the berm of the road to his right. Another SUV pulled out from a side street, placing his ginormous vehicle in front to Blake. Other than swerving out into oncoming traffic, Blake was boxed in.
Each SUV was exactly the same. Same make, same model, same color, same out of state plates, with the exception of the numbers of course. The SUV in the front slowed down quickly, as the one in the back sped up. There was less and less room for Blake and Alice as the cars got closer and closer to each other. Blake saw exactly what was going on, and before it was too late he pulled the Harley out into the other lane and swerved just in time to miss a car coming from the other direction. The car honked its horn in anger, and Blake felt Alice squeeze his chest even harder.
