Ice giant

I was a star in your eyes,
and slowly, I became your world.
But you could never call me home.
I am too extreme for your Earth.

Your love filled me with warmth,
as if I was never cold.
You painted me in shades of blue,
while the grey in me struggled to come ashore.

My winters are long and dark,
my rocky moons marked by your heart.
My blues absorbed your red,
yet, to call me God, you dare.

We're like Icarus and the sun,
to leave you alive is something which can't be done.
Don't fly too close, my love.
you can't leave unscathed, you can't run.

Our auroras will never align,
my storms never to bring you calm.
You'll never see my oceans so don't try and swim.
Paint me in shades of black now,
Don't get blinded by light that doesn't exist.

So when you see those falling stars,
Or when your eyes linger on the moon,
Don't wish upon my grave,
Embellish me in grey.
