Forest

Sunlight paints the darkened sky gold,
The forest glimmers with hope,
The one I lost many moons ago.

My wings were battered,
My skies blue.
Melancholy played through me,
Like it was the only note I knew.

I searched so far, I searched so wide,
But you were gone before we even reached twilight.
Now it's all fifty shades of the dark I never knew,
You were an artist, but I never your muse.

Time passed but memories of you were forever laced in my mind,
I did my best to solely exist for you,
But you never let me fly,
I stayed right in the corner,
where you left me battered and bruised.

Now I reach those heights,
Like Icarus never burned that bright.
My thorns grew back as roses,
That I now wear as a crown.
The forest basks in the glory of the sun.
The memory of your forgotten,
While I play on my harp the sweetest sound.
