Shifters - Animal

I followed Rhys into one of the smaller tents.

"Hi guys, this is Jay. He's new around here." Rhys introduced, "This is Clara, and this is Josh."

The girl - Clara was just shorter than me at around 5'6 (I'm 5'8) with light-brown hair slightly further down than her shoulder she had a kind smile on her face for most of the encounter. Josh had dark brown hair and looked around 6 feet tall he too like Rhys was quite muscly.

"Hi!" Clara greeted

"Hello," Josh said bitterly

"Hi" I replied meekly

"So, what brings you here?" Clara asked

"Uh, to be honest, I just ran around randomly until I bumped into Rhys" I answered awkwardly "So everyone here can shift into an animal right? So what are yours?"

"Well, I'm a rabbit shifter and Josh is a dog shifter which he finds boring but I think it's cool. What are you?" Clara responded

"I'm a wolf shifter I guess. That sounds weird," I informed them

"Woah! Those are quite rare! Especially around here as they're not native animals," she exclaimed

"Anyways guys I should probably show him around" Rhys explained

"Okay! See you later then!" Clara said whilst waving.

"Bye" I replied

Rhys then took me on a tour of the camp, it was a very isolated place full of nature and was very calm, well apart from inside the tents. Everyone I met was quite nice but looked at me a bit weird when they thought I wasn't looking. It was a very spacious camp for one that was in the woods. It felt like home, well the place that had felt the most like home to me ever.

"Hey, Rhys? Are we allowed to shift whenever we want here?" I asked

"Uh sure, obviously you can't just run off wherever but yeah you can shift as long as you're in control of your animal. Why? Wanna go for a run or something? I'm down if you do," he answered.

"Yeah!" I replied eagerly

We both shifted and he looked quite surprised, looking quite ridiculous as he was a fox, he then started to run off so I followed, we found a comfortable pace and started to follow a sort of path. Rhys looked like he was enjoying himself and I certainly was. I suddenly had the urge to play fight so that's what I did. I tackled him to the ground and it took him a few seconds to figure out what I was doing. We then spent the next 20 ish minutes play fighting. It was exhilarating, to say the least.

Rhys shifted back first, then I followed a few minutes later. I still have to get faster at that!

"You're good at shifting, who taught you to control your wolf?" he asked

"Uh, no one. I just kinda figured it out after I realised I wasn't crazy and could turn into a wolf," I replied

"Wait, your parents didn't tell you?" he questioned

"Uh. Um, well I've never met them so they couldn't tell me," I answered, "I didn't know they had died until a few days ago,"

"Oh, I'm so sorry I didn't know," he replied sadly, "Just so you know they would never have left you willingly. The pack bond would have ensured that. Every animal shifter has a bond with others of that species, but pack animals it's even stronger, like wolves"

We reentered the camp and Rhys said we had to go and see Matt, I offered to go alone for some reason. I followed the path that we took earlier and soon arrived at Matt's office. I knocked on the door and waited for a reply.
