This is the tale of a journey that takes Luna not only to discover the world beyond Narnia's borders; she will find a purpose that goes deeper than protecting her king.
» That's why. I can't protect you the way I should... « As she looks into his ey...

After the two stars returned to the heavenly realms the same way they descended, the six friends return to their crew at Aslan's Table where they fill them in on their next destination.
» The Dark Island, huh? « Drinian weighs his head from side to side, wearing a solemn expression. On the way back to the Dawn Treader, they discuss if they shall take everyone with them. Drinian is hesitant to leave anyone behind because they will probably need every hand. Caspian, however, is hesitant because of what happened just before they dropped anchor at the Island of the Star – that is what they named this new isle.
Though Luna's anger has faded, a strange feeling took its place. Actually, there is more than one feeling. They overwhelm her thoughts and attempt to rebuild the wall Cas and she so laboriously started to break down, brick by brick. As she won't be any help with the discussion at hand, she decides to split from the group. The young woman needs time to clear her head, and then to think. The best way to refocus her mind has always been the training, or maybe it became a sanctuary she can retreat to in the time as Crown Shield. Her gaze lands on Eustace, who walks with Reepicheep.
» Would you like to accompany me to train? « Luna falls in step with them. Reep knows her well enough to sense his friend's need to get away.
» Now? « AsksEustace, gesturing around them to point out the imminent dark – if it weren't for the lanterns and fireflies, they wouldn't see a thing. Luna merely shrugs,
» You think that island will be agleam? « Unlikely, Eustace must admit. If it is anything like he imagines, this dark spot on the horizon will mainly consist of black sand and stone, cliffs, and caves so dark you can't even make out your hand in front of your eyes. Eustace shudders.
» I think I need a lot of training for... this, « he mumbles, clasping his hands behind his back. Since they started to walk back, he thought about what Lucy said. Of course, everyone has a role to play. Only, he fears to be a burden and stand in the way. He isn't much of a fighter yet, barely able to defend himself – what little time they have left until they meet this evil the stars spoke about won't make him one. So, what use is he to these warriors? He looks up as he feels a hand on his shoulder. Luna smiles.
» Chin up, Eustace, « says she,
» We all need to prepare. « The boy returns the smile, grateful for her encouragement. Yet, he feels something to be off about her expression. Her thoughts seem far away and, though the corners of her lips are turned upwards, it doesn't reach her eyes. This resolves his last reluctance to train in the dark – whatever evilthey must face won't take consideration of his comfort anyways.
Reepicheep decides to stay behind but tells the two humans to go ahead. Equipped with two lanterns and a few fireflies trailing after them, they leave the path – not afraid of the jungle anymore. The shore isn't far, they reach it within minutes. There, the moon, and the stars offer light to see each other clear enough.
