Chevel’s POV

I smiled at Dante dishearteningly and he avoided my gaze as if he doesn’t want the day to end.

And for some reason, I unexpectedly felt the same way.

I’ve never really trusted anyone but Gyth. Now, I gained some friends and for me, that includes Dante.

“It’s as if time flew by so fast.” I said, trying to break the sudden awkwardness in the air.

“Indeed.” He responded as he looked outside the window where the sun is setting. His eyes gleamed before the sun rays but his gaze is slowly sinking into darkness.

Unlike Gyth whose room is fully shunned from light, Dante’s room is always well lit.

He keeps his curtains open as if he’s trying to cast away his own darkness.

He drifted his gaze towards me and almost choked when he caught me watching him. He proceeded to flash a wide smile as if trying to cheer me up after he saw the glint of sadness in my eyes.

“What? Are you that sad to be apart from me, doll?” He said nudging my sides to which I snickered.

Like I said, Dante shows what he feels.

Except for his sadness.

I don’t know why he kept on showing me facades of his smile when he’s truly feeling lonely inside.

It must’ve been painful.

“It’s getting dark, I should return you to your master.” He said, stretching out his arms standing up.

“He must’ve missed you a ton since you’ve always been together.” He said making me feel dejected.

“Then who has been beside you all this time?” I mumbled and I flinched upon realizing I said it out loud.

My gaze instantly darted towards Dante’s back who’s frozen in place.

“What are you doing, doll? Get up or I’ll lock you up in here.” He said turning around to look at me with a raised brow and a smirk plastered on his mouth, pretending not to hear what I just said.

I let out a sigh of defeat, getting up and landing a flick on his forehead. His mouth gaped slightly open in surprise as our eyes fixated onto each other.

Dante is just stubborn as Gyth. It’s the only similarity they have. They are keeping their darkness close to their heart.

“You’re a fast learner, doll.” Dante said with a smirk as I stifled a laugh.

I let our conversations run even if there’s obviously sorrow behind his eyes. There’s a lot of chances I can see him again.

We’re both in the underworld anyway.

“Let’s go.” He said grabbing his robe and draping it around his back as he led me to the door.

I followed suit behind him as he opened the door and Gyth came into view.

“Gyth.” I called out upon seeing him outside the door.

He looked at me with relief and turned to glare towards Dante. I clasped my hands together, feeling the sudden tension in the air.

“Look who we have here. Have you been waiting?” Dante said with a mocking smirk, pushing Gyth’s buttons.

“No. Not at all.” Gyth said firmly as he stared towards Dante with piercing eyes.

“Shall we go then, Chevel?” Gyth said extending his hand towards me.

I stared at the palm of his hand for a second and towards Dante’s longing eyes. I bit my lip and hesitantly took Gyth’s hand, feeling sick towards the situation I’m in.

I’m glad to be with Gyth again but upon spending the day with Dante, I came to know him a little bit and I know that once I leave him, he’ll be all alone again.

All of a sudden, Gyth pulled me softly towards his chest, his hands securing my back as if he marked his territory.

“We’ll get going then.” Gyth said, holding my wrist as he began walking away.

My breath hitched as I glance over my shoulder and met Dante’s eyes for a split second. I’ve never seen such sorrowful eyes for a very long time.

“Do you want to have a quick stop at my chamber before I take you to yours?” Gyth asked as we paced towards the hallway leading to his chamber.

I nodded, forming a smile on my lips as I locked my eyes on his emerald ones.

I missed him.

“Nothing bad has happened, right?” Gyth asked, opening the door to his chamber.

My eyes observed the strange dent on the wall and the unfamiliar doorknob on his door.

“Did something happen here?” I asked as we stepped into the room.

I noticed Gyth’s eyes blinking peculiarly as if he’s trying to hide something but he shook his head.

“Nothing of importance.” He responded as his gaze never left mine.

“I’m glad that you’re safe.” He said, his emerald eyes glimmering through the dim light.

“Gyth..” I called out his name as he raised his brows in unison, waiting for my words.

“You know, Dante isn’t really that bad as you-“ I hesitantly said as I stared towards his eyes that suddenly turned dark upon hearing Dante’s name.

“..thought.” I mumbled my last word, feeling the building tension.

I stood against the door and I flinched as he vanished from my sight and reappeared all of a sudden an inch away from my face, his forearms leaning against the door.

I’m trapped in between his arms.

My lips parted in shock but no sound came out. He let out a minty sigh that brushed my face and I was petrified.

I glanced at his tensed features and his cloudy emerald eyes that seemed a bit furious.

My breath got caught in my throat when he slowly leaned even closer until our nose touched and our lips just a millimeter away from each other.

I inhaled deeply, holding my breath as I closed my eyes. The heat instantly filled my cheeks as I felt a cold tingle on my lower lip. I opened my eyes and met his green ones that are wide opened, looking at my eyes intently.

His upper lip brushed my lower lip for a second before he pulled back, not exploring any further.

I watched his back as he walked away towards the table, leaving me completely confused and appalled at the same time. I panted, my chest contracting and expanding vigorously from holding my breath.

He picked up the glass from the table and poured wine into it. He took a sip and sighed heavily soon after.

“Can we..” Gyth muttered, placing his glass back on the table.

“..talk about something else?” He asked with gloomy eyes.

“O-of course.” I stuttered anxiously, guilty of ruining our reunion.

How stupid of me to think that my words could end their misunderstanding. If it was that simple, then they would’ve had reconciled a long time ago.

“I’m sorry.” I muttered under my breath, gaining Gyth’s attention.

“No need for apologies, Chevel.” He said as he walked back towards my static figure on the door, his hand cupping my cheek. My eyes widened in surprise at his sudden gesture.

“Come here.” He said, gently pulling me into his arms. I felt my body weaken as I felt his touch.

I wasn’t over yet with the event that happened beforehand and here he is pulling me again.

He enclasped me between his arms and I automatically buried my face in his chest. His embrace grew tighter every second as I euphorically smiled in relief.

Finally, I’m home again.
