Behind this closed door is the king of the underworld. The most terrifying man alive in this place.

Gyth slid his hand off my arm, leaving me with the feeling of vulnerability. I quickly darted my gaze towards him as soon as I felt his cold touch leave mine and he immediately gave me an apologetic look.

“My apologies Chevel, but it’s best to avoid any sort of contact from now on.” He said warily staring right through my eyes. I nodded, clasping my hands together in exchange.

I braced myself as the huge door slowly opened with an eerie creaking sound. I can’t help but cower when the throne room came to view.

It was eerily dark like the first time I woke up in Gyth’s room but the crippling fear I feel now can’t compare to how I felt back then.

I whipped my gaze towards Gyth and all I could see is his green eyes gleaming in the darkness. I felt unsafe not seeing entirely in the distance.

I cautiously scanned the room and there are few sets of eyes around us.

“Look what we have here.” A raspy hoarse voice said and I instantly felt shivers all over my body.

I drifted my gaze straight in front of me and I flinched almost immediately upon meeting a pair of red dilated eyes.

I was frozen in place as if being paralyzed as the red eyes fixated its gaze on mine.

“We’ve come, Lucifer.” Gyth said beside me, snapping me off from the red eyes’ gaze.

My eyes widened in fear when the red eyes instantly shifted towards Gyth and that was my queue to shudder uncontrollably.

Those exact red eyes that had been staring right through mine are the king’s eyes.

Lucifer’s eyes

My foot instinctively took a step back until I felt an arm against my back, hindering me from taking another step backwards.

I drifted my gaze towards Gyth and his features are tensed as he slowly slid his arm off my back.

“I guess I should introduce myself properly to our lovely guest.” The king said with a frivolous tone.

I heard his fingers click and suddenly the lights are on. My eyes squinted upon the sudden brightness and once I recovered a restrained squeal immediately escaped my throat.

My eyes can’t believe what horror I’ve seen.

There, seated at the throne with the same exact crimson eyes is a completely burnt body from head to toe with its flesh almost showing.

His eyes look like they’re almost out of their sockets and his wings are bat-like black.

On his burnt head lies a dark crown ornamented with rubies and he’s only wearing a trouser, his burnt rotting body visible with the naked eye.

I glanced over my shoulder and saw Gyth sending glares towards the king at the corner of my eyes.

The moment my brain finished processing what my eyes have seen, my pulses began palpitating tremendously and my tremor exaggeratingly escalated.

A stupendous fear formed on my face whilst a sinister smile rests on the king’s lips.

“Oh. My apologies for letting you see me in this appearance.” The king said with a creepily blissful expression in his face as if he’s enjoying every moment of fear evident on my features.

My eyes dilated in shock and fear when his hideous appearance suddenly turned into an appealing gent in a matter of seconds.

His rotting body is gone. Instead, he’s wearing a black tux. The dark crown is gone and his hair made a perfect quiff with short sides. His crimson eyes became alluring but his lips still wore a sinister smile.

He suddenly stood up and the humans near him flinched as if it’s unusual for him to stand up from his throne.

I felt Gyth’s body tensed next to mine as the king slowly paced towards our direction.

Even a grim reaper who takes souls of the dead shows fear before this creature.

My eyes can’t take off its gaze from his crimson ones as if they’re being held captive.

My breath hitched as he narrowed the distance between us. He licked his lower lip maliciously and soon, his lips formed a smirk as he glanced towards my exposed shaking hands.

Gyth’s POV

My teeth gritted as soon as Lucifer made his way in front of Chevel. I felt miserable standing next to her unable to stop the king from moving closer.

“Haven't you the least curious as to why your eyes and hair went silver?” Lucifer suddenly asked, making my eyes whip over to him.

I glanced over to Chevel’s appalled state and back onto Lucifer, shooting him with a glare.

Lucifer smirked as he drifted his gaze onto mine and my hands can’t control themselves from forming a fist.

“Enough.” I blurted out, which made Lucifer’s smirk grew bigger. It’s obvious that he’s amused of my alarmed state.

“Well then. Assist the mortal outside.” Lucifer ordered. “Gyth and I will have a talk.” He continued and I felt a tug on my cape.

“No need. I’ll take her outside.” I said bowing before leading Chevel out of the room.

As soon as we’re outside, Chevel’s knees gave up. I leaned her against the wall as I held her arms and my eyes enlarged upon feeling how horrendously trembling she was.

I can’t even think about how she made it that long inside the room without falling on her knees.

“Chevel. Wait for me here.” I muttered, and tears suddenly began brimming in her eyes.

No words left her mouth but her hands gripping tightly onto my cape gave it away.

I reached for her hands, gently sliding them off my cape and in turn clasping them in mine.

“You have my badge. The moment something goes wrong I’ll know in an instant.” I said with an attempt to assure her.

She nodded after a while of getting lost in her thoughts as I gently brushed the strands of her hair away from her face.

Her silver hair flowed elegantly to her waist and the words of Lucifer echoed across my mind.

What might he be scheming? Or does he really know what’s behind Chevel’s silver features?

Countless questions began overflowing my mind.

“I’ll be back.” I said, locking my eyes on Chevel’s. I gave her a reassuring smile, the best that I could make, before going back inside the throne room with aggravating rage.

Whatever mischief the king is plotting, there’s only one way to find out.
