Overworked

Usually he was the busy one. This change of season had you on the hard working end of things for once, while he had less to do than usual. It was a strange switch up to say the least, and it wasn't one he was taking well if he was to be truthful.

You had been gone all day. After a call, you just quickly waved to him and dashed off, really emphasizing the urgency of your situation. Kite was a little surprised, but being apart wasn't uncommon to either of you so he simply let you work in peace. By the time you came home though, it was well into the evening with the sun almost done setting, and you still weren't done working. Even though you had been gone for a solid twelve hours at least, your work continued on in the form of a report, and this frustrated him just a little.

His frustration wasn't necessarily because you didn't greet him as you usually did, but it did boil up a little because of that. The main frustrating point was how you continued to overwork yourself despite any initial protest he made. You insisted that this had to be done as quickly as possible, and he eventually caved and let you go about your work to do exactly that. You did give him a few chaste kisses to remind him you still cared, but all your attention had gone and fused to your laptop screen after only a few minutes of interaction, huddled up on the couch working diligently. Though disappointed, Kite let you work on and reminded you to come to bed soon due to how late it was and disappeared into his bedroom.

He didn't mean to, but as he sat in wait for you on the bed, he dozed off after only an hour or two, completely fatigued and out cold. He would've stayed that way too if it wasn't for the sound of mugs clinking in the kitchen to wake him. His bed was still empty, no sign of you ever having come to join him present. When he glanced over at the clock, the deepest and longest possible sigh escaped him. It was four in the morning. He now decided that you would be coming to bed whether you liked it or not. Getting your work done was a good mindset to be in, but not at the expense of your health and sanity. He slid off the bed and dragged his feet back out into the kitchen to go and retrieve you before you collapsed, because clearly you hadn't rested at all yet.

Sure enough when he rounded the corner, there you stood boiling a pot of water while you blindly started making a cup of coffee. Yes, coffee, at four in the morning. Not even the good kind, just poor, instant coffee while you glanced back and forth between your screen and the cup. Kite let out yet another audible sigh which caught your attention and made you drop the spoon. He stood there with his arms crossed, which made you chuckle nervously as you turned to face him fully.

"What are you still doing awake? It's 4am." Kite asked you.

"Eheh... Got a little caught up in my work I guess~" You replied sheepishly.

"No more. You've worked long enough."

"But I'm so close to finishing this report! Just a little more time is all I need." You insisted, picking up the cup of coffee.

Kite shook his head and sighed again, walking up to you. He took the cup from your hand and proceeded to dump it down the sink, following with shutting your laptop. You stared at him with your mouth agape, almost offended that he took away your precious brew.

"Aw come on! That was fresh!" You whined.

"You've been awake for more than twenty hours. You need to rest." He insisted, pushing you along now.

Truthfully, he was a little annoyed by the lack of attention you usually provided. He actually missed the way you would always check up on him and snuggle up at the end of the day, so he was simply taking you back away from the work that had stolen you. For a moment you protested as he pushed you out of the kitchen, but soon stopped when his arms wrapped tightly around your waist in a hug from behind. He held you close while he continued to nudge you forward, starting to press kisses into the top of your head as he went.

"Gee, someone sure is needy." You chuckled, not minding the attention.

"My bed has been empty for nearly a day. That's a problem for me right now." He mumbled.

"Aw, so you just miss me then~" You teased.

"Not just that. You need your rest too. You look exhausted."

He was honestly quite right about that one. Now that you weren't looking at your laptop screen anymore, the fatigue really made itself apparent to you. You could feel the droop of your eyes, and admittedly started to slump a little. Soon you relied on Kite for support, too tired to walk properly. It had been about twenty hours since you first woke up. Maybe it was about time you put yourself to bed.

"You're right..." You yawned.

He sighed, pleased that you finally agreed. The two of you continued your slow waddle back to the bed where he pulled you down with him onto the soft and incredibly welcoming mattress. He insisted on still holding you tight, wiggling under the covers with you where he continued to plant some more well aimed kisses at your cheeks and lips this time. They were soft, gentle, and full of care, earning quiet giggles from you as you were lulled into a blissful state of relaxation.

"You really need to stop overworking yourself, love. You need breaks." He repeated once more.

"It really sounds like I've picked up on your old habits and you've picked up on mine." You huffed.

"That sounds like more of a bad thing for you." He noted.

"You sure? I mean I'm still quite diligent in my work."

"At the cost of your sanity and sleep schedule though. And my cuddles." He muttered.

"You're definitely picking up on my traits by now." You chuckled, another big yawn coming your way.

"Sleep." He whispered. "Your eye bags are designer at this point."

"Oh my lord, who taught you that?" You snorted.

He mumbled something about it not mattering as he kissed your forehead. Your exhaustion really caught up with you now, and you gave up entirely on the banter. He was so warm and comfy, the dark room pulling you down into the depths of the best sleep you'd ever get in quite some time. Held lovingly in his arms, you let one more chuckle slip by before you fell asleep, grateful for his care. He too fell asleep soon after you, now at ease seeing your resting features.

It was easier to get back to sleep with you there beside him. There was always next time to finish the work. For now, your company was needed just as much as sleep was needed. And what a sweet sleep it was, finally free of your duties under the thick blankets.
