Home is Wherever You Are

"Tsk... I would rather be literally anywhere than fucking here." You grumbled to yourself, begrudgingly checking into a hotel.

Your sour mood was honestly justifiable. It was the holiday season, and you weren't home. You were nowhere near home. Instead you were out on a job, pissed as hell about it, because you wanted to be at home with Kite. He had somehow ended up with the free time while you were stuck away from him, which during the holidays you would argue to be a crime.

Complaining got you nowhere though. You were here, and had to work with it, so you made sure that you got yourself a really nice hotel to stay in for the night to make up for the fact that you weren't home. If you were going to be mad, it may as well be in a bed that was as warm as your lover's arms.

With a key card finally in hand, you held your displeased expression as you took the elevator up to your room, throwing everything down dramatically in the corner when you got up there. The next order of business was throwing yourself on the single queen bed, letting out an ungodly groan of frustration into the pillows. With all that expressed you were finally able to let out a long sigh, slowly pushing yourself upright.

"I need a long, hot shower. God... What a shitty holiday." You muttered.

Sliding off the bed, you did exactly that, making your way to the bathroom to start your extended stay under a hot stream of water. You were in there for every bit of forty-five minutes, allowing the hot water to wash away the tension in your muscles and hopefully the pain of not being home too. It was always awful when your responsibilities outweighed your ability to stay home and relax.

Even so, after spending enough time under the hot water, you found that even a little bit of peace thankfully came to you. You had settled with the fact that you would be alone for the holidays, and stepped out into the steam filled bathroom after nearly an hour. Your mind was as foggy as the mirror, only focusing on keeping yourself calm as you lazily dressed yourself in the complimentary sleepwear that came with your suite. Paying extra was worth it sometimes.

After taking some time to brush your teeth and dry off, you finally got out of the bathroom and threw yourself back onto the bed. You didn't even go under the covers, you just lied face down in the sheets, spending a few more moments being mad. No more though. You still had a call to make. You may not be able to see Kite, but hearing him would suffice, so you lifted your head just enough to spot your phone on the bedside table and grab it to make the call.

It rang once, twice, then three times... You were nervous for a second, but thankfully he answered just before the fourth ring.

"Hey. You finally called." He answered.

"Hah, you sound like you've been waiting for me then." You huffed, already feeling better.

"Maybe I was. You always call before you sleep." He replied, sort of mumbling. "It lets me know you're safe..."

A smile cracked on your face, adoring how sweet he was even now. "Aw, sorry! I was in the shower for a while. But uh, are you alright? You sound really... echoey on your end for some reason."

"Do I? Huh. This hall really does echo a lot now that I think about it." Kite rambled on.

He was being odd. This was... odd. Why did he sound so airheaded?

"Are you going somewhere?" You asked, pressing him for more info.

"Oh! Yes. I am. I'm just on my way home right now, actually." He answered nonchalantly.

"Home? Aren't you already at-"

Your sentence was cut short by the sound of a knock on the door of your room. That same knocking sound came from the receiver of your phone a short delay after, and the silence that quickly fell over the world was deafening. You stared at the door for far too long; long enough to make Kite speak over the phone again.

"You might want to answer that." He spoke calmly and quietly.

You could practically hear that he was smiling with every word. You hung up immediately and rolled off of the bed, throwing yourself at the door to fling it open faster than one would consider physically possible. Against your initial disbelief he stood there before you, so you did the only reasonable thing: threw yourself at him with enough force to send both of you toppling down to the carpeted hallway floor. The wind was nearly knocked from him, but he embraced you anyway, having expected a reaction of this sort.

"Why are you here?? How are you here?! How did you know this is where I was staying?!"

You bombarded him with questions all while planting many kisses on his face after each one. You honestly didn't really care if you got an answer or not. The fact that he was here was enough.

"You told me where you were staying yesterday. You expressed that you were pretty upset about not being home, so here I am." He laughed. "I knew you didn't want to be alone, so I came home to you."

"... My god you are perfection in a physical manifestation. Come inside. Now." You huffed, scrambling backwards and dragging him with you.

Kite was more than happy to oblige, getting up and following you back inside your hotel room. When the heavy door closed you dragged him further back, bringing him down onto the bed with you as you locked him in one hell of a death grip hug. He happily melted into your grasp, grabbing the edges of the blankets to pull them up around you.

"I'm so glad to see you... but I still wish I was home instead of here." You mumbled into his shoulder, "I do appreciate your presence though. Things aren't nearly as dreadful now..."

"Mmm, I understand, but to me... Home is wherever you are, love." He told you sweetly, clutching you tighter within the blankets.

"Oh... shush. C'mere." You mumbled.

You pulled yourself up closer to his face, brushing some loose strands of hair away so you could kiss him properly this time. It was much more comfortable on a bed within the warmth of blankets compared to the floor. It was so much easier to melt into each other, long breaths escaping you as you basked in his unexpected presence. He truly was a miracle of a man, his own hands holding you tightly around your waist while his thumbs gently caressed your skin.

Neither of you wanted to spend the holiday apart truthfully. You were so damn glad he came to surprise you. Home really was whenever you were together. When you broke apart, you looked at him with a grateful look about your eyes, resting your forehead against his.

"Thank you for coming. You're making this whole ordeal so much better." You said quietly.

"Of course. The holidays aren't quite the same without you anyway." Kite replied, taking you in close.

Sleep would come easy now. You were home.
