Lettie's POV
Mrs Bale's words are still echoing in my mind. What do I know about Tessie?

I need to ask her. I just don't want to come of interrogative. I was t to be a supportive friend. That is what she needs. I knocked on the guest room door before opening.

"Hi."

She smiled at me. "Hi. Has the creep sent you more lingerie?"

"Not since this morning." I sat on the bed. "Someone is growing. How far along are we?"

"Seventeen weeks."

"You must be going through a lot. Do you have a plan?"

"Yeah." She shrugged. "Santi."

How can it be Santi? After all this she still thinks he will step up. She's in denial. The wise thing to do is to start planning for the future without Santi in the picture.

"Chica, Santi is not coming through for you."

"He's just in shock. He will get over it and my baby will have a father."

A rich daddy. That is all she cares about honestly. It's the money. She doesn't love Santiago and I think he knows that. If she loved him, he would step up to be a dad even if not a husband. I know him that much. He knows she's with him for the money.

"The most you will get out of Santi is child support."

"I know." She shrugged.

"I was thinking we should plan something. You have been here for what, ten weeks? What's the plan other than waiting on Santi?"

"A plan like what?" She frowned at me.

"Like what will you do if he doesn't come through?"

She looked away from a moment. "It's... I think I'll give the baby you for adoption. I can't do it alone."

"You could get a job. Many single mothers make it through."

"Chica, you don't graduate from wiping tables to the girlfriend of a billionaire and back to wiping the tables. No. I'm not going back."

"So you wouldn't rather give up your baby for adoption than swallow your pride?" I asked her.

"You're not pregnant! You don't get it! This isn't easy for me!"

"I bet it isn't. But setting your mind on Santi coming through for you is the problem. It's keeping you from planning for this baby. Do your parents know about the baby? Are you going back to Mexico?"

She wiped the corner of her eyes. "I can't go back to Mexico. I'm not going back to that life."

"Go home to your parents. I think you need their support."

"I don't have parents." She looked away.

"I'm sorry..." I tried to reach for her hand but she pulled away.

"I have nothing in Mexico. Everything I have is here with Santi and he has ditched me when I need him the most." She sobbed bitterly.

Sherry was right. It's okay to want a man but needing him just puts a woman in a painful situation. If she was independent of him she would have made something of herself.

I want to tell her Yuki got a job and she should get one too but how will she take it? She's so proud. She won't do anything. She's used to Santi throwing money at her.

"Get a job." I guess it has to be said.

She looked at me like I had said the most offensive thing. "I'm pregnant."
