Lettie's POV
I can only hear the sound of the old car. The smell of fuel is making me nauseatous. I have cranked the window low letting the wind hit my face. The silence is uncomfortable because I can feel his gaze on me.

"Given our relationship, do you think it's within my right to ask what is going on around your midsection?"

"Are you asking if I'm pregnant?" I leveled my gaze with him.

He mattered in Spanish. He cast his gaze far ahead and for a moment he barely said anything until he turned to look at me. "I'll be direct. Don't take any offense. Who does it belong to?" He broke the silence.

I stopped leaning on the window to meet my father's eyes briefly. "Brody." I answered.

"Is that why you have decided not to go home to your husband?"

"I'm sure he has already replaced me. What am I going back to?"

He slow e down when we hit a rough road. I saw a jeep sitting on the airfield next to an old plane. I know the jeep. I sat up immediately. "Why did you call her?"

"It's fitting that you say goodbye to the ones who matter if your plan is to disappear. You owe her that much. That girl was ready to beat Brody up for you." He switched off the car.

Sherry isn't the only one here. Juan is here too. Domingo got the door for me. As soon as Sherry saw me she ran my way. Unlike me, Sherry isn't short. She's average and that feels talk for me especially when I'm wearing slippers. She enveloped me in a tight hug.

Juan stood by at a stare off with my father.

"You're pregnant!" Sherry gasped. "You're finally pregnant."

"Sherry, it's-"

"It doesn't matter. It really doesn't matter. Bryce will still love you-"

"Stop it Sherry. Juan, would you still want to be with Sherry if she got pregnant with another man's baby?"

I hate putting Juan on the spot but my best friend needs to understand that this will make Bryce uncomfortable for the test of his life. Seeing me like this is enough to break his heart. We have been trying for so long to get pregnant.

"It's complicated."

"What's complicated?" Sherry took a hit on him.

"I want to sleep in my bed tonight in my house. So I will refrain from answering that question."

"Refrain? You will refrain? It's really a yes or no Juan Carlos. Which one is it?"

"Yes, I would want you Sherry. No. I wouldn't want another man's baby."

Sherry sighed. She stared at me trying to feign absent hope. "He can... he can get used to it. The baby isn't a stranger! It's family so it's okay."

"Juan would you accept Gian Carlo's baby if it came from Sherry?"

"Enough of these questions." My father snapped his fingers. "Say your goodbyes."

"Okay goodbye."

"What? Just like that?" Shetty grabbed me. "You're going to leave just like that!"

"What do you want me to say Sherry?"

"That you'll stay."

"And do what exactly? Hurt Bryce? I can't do that to him." I broke away.

"But I will miss you!"

"Me too. I'll miss you too but I need this. I just need space. Please give me space."
