Ishita, who was on the driver's seat of the car, shook her head in disbelief at dushyant's fidgeting legs. He was constantly looking around, playing with his knuckles, taking a lot of deep sighs, it was even a wonder that he was able to sit on the passenger seat, and had not jumped out of the car already.
"toh, kab kia tha tumne, prime minister ka interview?" asked ishita casually, as dushyant was completely dumbfounded.
"huh?" responded dushyant, confused, as ishita tried to hold in her laughter.
"probably after that talibani leader, right? jab tum literally afghanistan mein the?" recounted ishita, as dushyant just rolled his eyes, knowing exactly where she was going with this.
"toh unki beti ka haath mangane thodi gaya tha, interview lene ke baad toh shakal bhi nahi dekhi unki...aunty toh aisa lagta hamesha si hi ghar mein kaam kar rahi hai...pata nahi kya-kya yaad hoga mere baarein mein mere bachpan ka, pata nahi kya sochti honge mere baarein mein...." blabbered dushyant, as a smile crept up on ishita's face.
"dushyant, woh mujhe ghar aakar bhi bataya karti thi, mujhe tak ab woh yaad nahi!" exclaimed ishita, as dushyant was completely ready to argue now.
"yaar tumhe mujhe batana chahiye tha na, seedha office se pick karliya....thoda prepare toh ho jata main mentally....maa se baat karleta...kuch le leta unke liye...pata hai kitna time ho gaya hai mujhe khudh interview diye hue kisiko!" grumbled dushyant, as ishita just couldn't stop chuckling at this point.
"hasna band karo..." stated dushyant, as even he couldn't help but chuckle along with her.
"trust me, the difficult part is over..." assured ishita, with a smile, as dushyant too smiled and nodded, he believed in it whole-heartedly.
ishita took a long sigh of despair, oh how wrong she was...she looked outside the window, there was rohini, all those evenings she walked home exhausted from her weekend classes, but she was making a better life for herself, right? a life where she wasn't forced to live in a area where rain could literally drown her house, or just not relying on other people's leftovers for food...but even if she has that now, is her life better? way before this happened, was her life even good then? where did she go wrong? was it all worth it?
there was complete and loudly overbearing silence in the dinning room, as ishita constantly looked at dushyant, who just fiddling his spoon along his plate, not even looking her in the eye. she gently placed her hand on his, as a gesture of affection, he glanced at her in response, to which she looked at him with adoration, but he jerked his hand off. she couldn't take it anymore.
"dushyant, doctor keh rahe the na, there are treatment options..." attempted ishita to maintain her calm and talk to him rationally, when he just threw his spoon on the plate, as ishita looked at him with shock.
"tumhara toh sab kuch normal aaya na? tum chaho toh abhi maa ban sakti ho...that cannot happen for me ishita! mujhe literally dawaiyaan khaani padengi ki main apna bacha karpaon! it's a big deal...." expressed dushyant his frustration, as ishita was losing her calm now.
"toh khaaloge thodi dawaiyan toh kya hojayega! aisa toh nahi hai baap ban nahi sakte tum!" yelled ishita, as dushyant scoffed and ishita glared at him.
"bas sperm mobility thodi kam hai dushyant, it's very common now...i mean, tumhara job stressful hai bahaut, how about we take a break, like he suggested...and try again?" suggested ishita, as dushyant covered his mouth, taking a huge long sigh.
"nahi, tumhara clinic abhi hi toh thoda acha chalne laga hai...aise beech chodke kyun jaogi tum...it's just, mere saath aisa kabhi hua nahi hai...i mean, main toh kabhi bachpan mein beemar bhi nahi pada itna...maine kabhi kisi bhi cheez ke liye regular medecine nahi li hai...it's just, mujhe samajh nahi aa raha hai yeh sab...kahan galti ho gayi mujhse?" declined dushyant politely, finally returning to his senses, as ishita placed her hand onto his.
"and i'm causing problems for you as well..." stated dushyant, guilty.
"dushyant, come on, aise toh mat bolo...you are my husband, tumhare problems ab hamare problems hain...and we'll work it out together..." assured ishita, as dushyant too nodded, somehow just not convinced enough to be hopeful about his future....
purvi looked straight at the road ahead of her, driving through, but her mind was completely somewhere else, away from where her eyes were.
kavin took a deep sigh, as he continued to look at the papers in front of him, making purvi, who was sitting next to him, worried. he turned to her, with a face she had seen before, it was bad news.
"hamare bache mein down syndrome ka risk hai....defective gene, meri family ki side se hai..." informed kavin, as purvi tried to put on a strong face.
"thodi aur testing karni padegi, abhi kuch affirmatively nahi keh sakte..." added kavin, as purvi nodded, putting on a fake smile.
"it's ok...really...uhhh, abhi toh test bhi hona hai...uhhm, kya pata hai, we are lucky...a little bit..." purvi swallowed a lot in the middle of her sentences, as kavin just quietly nodded.
"we'll be fine, jo bhi hoga.." assured purvi, with a conviction that probably wasn't even convincing her, let alone kavin, but she was trying, and sensing that, he agreed along. what other choice did they have?
Purvi took a final right turn, as the blueboard appeared in front of them, 'welcome to haryana'. the journey had just begun.
