The news of Chan's death spread rapidly. He was loved in his community, and everyone in his neighborhood was mourning him. It didn't feel the same without him walking Cherry every day.
Eventually, his death became national news, seeing as they were trying to find his murderer, but nothing came up. They, of course, had suspects, but there was no proof that any of them did anything.
The investigators' main suspect was none other than Jisung. He was close with Chan, and then they had a falling out. That falling out could've led to bad feelings toward Chan, and with his history of alcohol abuse, it was possible that he got drunk one night and paid him a visit. The only issue with that scenario was that Jisung had a solid alibi that placed him at the bar that night at that time. He was on the security footage, so they knew that they had to rule him out.
Their next suspect was Hyunjin. The two never liked each other. Hyunjin's hatred for Chan could've boiled over and led him to do something regrettable. Unfortunately for them, Hyunjin also had an alibi. He was with Jisung, as seen on the security footage.
They continued through the list of people that Chan had known, trying to find a new suspect. Many people they questioned brought up the name Minho. To their dismay, no one had a photo of him to put on the news. All they could give was a description, but no one ever called in to say they saw him.
Once they finally let Jisung go, he went back to Hyunjin as he had when Chan and he broke their friendship. He kept going back to him no matter how much he hurt him. He knew that he shouldn't have, but Hyunjin always gave him a night of relief from the stress and shame that he carried each day. Whether it was drinking, sex, drugs. Whatever it was, Hyunjin brought relief.
Jisung had gotten so much worse after hearing the news of Chan's death and then being questioned as a suspect on top of it. Even some of the people at the church began to question if he had really done it. It sent him spiraling, and he became the worst he'd ever been. There wasn't a day that passed that he hadn't had anything to drink. That wasn't the issue, though. Many people will have a drink or two each night. That's normal. What wasn't normal was the number of times he showed up for work absolutely plastered at 9 in the morning. If he wasn't drunk, he was hungover and couldn't get any work done.
Everything was going according to Hyunjin's plan. See, the reason for Hyunjin and Chan's rivalry went deeper than just moral differences, whether it was a mutual understanding or not. Hyunjin was a demon. He was sent to Earth as a test to determine how strong God's will on a religious man actually was, and it didn't seem to be that strong. At least, not in Jisung's case. The end goal was to bring Jisung's soul to hell, where he'd serve Lucifer for the rest of eternity. Everything just fell into place, and Chan's death was the cherry on top. That was Hyunjin's money ticket.
He didn't know that Chan was going to die so soon, but he used it to his advantage. He knew that Jisung would feel guilty for not making up with Chan sooner and promised to be there for him and help him move on. His way of moving on was much different than those on Earth.
A few days after Chan's death, Dr. Baek heard about his murder through the news. No one had known that he was seeing her accept herself and Minho, and of course, the ladies at the front desk, so there was no one to tell her sooner.
When she found out, she was devastated. She had lost clients before in her many years of working, so it wasn't earth-shattering news, but it did hurt to know that he was murdered. He didn't even get the chance to get better. He was doing so well, and his life was cut so short.
Minho's assumptions about her were false. There was nothing to be skeptical about her for. She was just a normal woman who was a psychotherapist that did her best to see her clients succeed. That was all she wanted. But this time, it didn't seem that was going to be happening.
The church had to quickly rehire a new priest, promoting the next in line. He was interesting to the employees. While they had known him for a while, they hadn't seen how he'd act in such a high position of power and in complete control of the church. He did well, and people liked him. But Changbin's way of preaching was completely different than Chan's. Where Chan went for sentiment, Changbin went for comedy. He constantly cracked jokes throughout the sermon. People enjoyed it, definitely, but it took some time to get used to and a couple of people leaving.
This being said, he didn't begin preaching this way. Of course, it took a little bit before Changbin got comfortable and the church moved on from their loss of Chan. But once the mood had passed and everyone just wanted some kind of relief, that's when Changbin let himself preach in his own way.
As for Cherry, she went back to the shelter where Chan had got her from. It took her a long time to get adopted again because of the restrictions on Rottweilers in Seoul. Not many people trusted her, despite her showing no kind of hostility toward anyone. People were still cautious around her, being that she was an "aggressive" breed.
But once she did finally get adopted, it was to a loving family on the outskirts of the city. They had two children who absolutely adored Cherry when they were looking around the shelter. The idea of having a big and "scary" dog was fascinating to them and their parents didn't mind the idea of having a stronger dog.
They had a large property for her to run around on and play with the kids. It took her a little bit to get used to the new lifestyle, but once she did, it was like everything got brighter for the whole family. She became their friend, their protector, and their family.
With all of that being said, the world would continue on without Chan being in it.
