FOR THE PAST few days, Camilo noticed his hermana and primas had taken another approach to being friends with Eliana. Instead of bugging her with offers to help, they took turns staying at home to keep her company. And whatever they were doing during their hangouts, it was working. Eliana started to smile more genuinely when he saw her at dinner and he was glad she was getting comfortable.
Knowing her situation got better and his familia had his back, Camilo didn't feel as guilty for not being a good host anymore or feel apprehensive of their possible awkward and forced interactions. He could just have some short, small talk about the weather whenever they would cross each other's paths and he'd be free to go on about his day.
Well, that was until today happened.
Camilo internally groaned. Today was supposedly going to be another perfect day where he spends his time doing the things he loves. Unfortunately, Mirabel had to ruin that by dragging him to come help Señorita Incómoda to shop for some ingredients and he couldn't say no because she threatened to tattle to his mami if he disagreed. He loved his mami too much to risk making her upset (also, he's afraid of her when she's mad).
So now here he was, trailing behind a chatty Mirabel and a quiet Eliana who listened to her every word. He noticed a bunch of kids playing freely and sighed. He could be doing so much more fun or responsible things right now, but no.
"Earth to Camiloo!!" Mirabel called out, snapping him out of his daze. She held out the shopping bag. "Can you carry these for me?" It seemed he was too lost in his own thoughts he didn't realize the two already bought whatever they needed while he just continued walking.
Camilo shrugged and took them from her, stumbling a bit at the sudden, heavy weight. What's even in this?
"I think that's all." Eliana rechecked her list to make sure they got everything. "Yeah. That's all."
