ELIANA STARED OFF at a distance as she slowly dried the breakfast dishes. She remained unperturbed when she heard her dad come into the kitchen, looking for his glasses. "Your glasses are in the bathroom, papá."
Every morning, her pa would take a long time trying to find his reading glasses. If it wasn't for Eliana who put on herself the responsibility of knowing where it was, he would take a lot longer and be late for work.
"Thank you." He kissed her on the temple before going to the bathroom. She stopped for a second, expecting him to continue with his usual, "I'll be going now, mi hija. Cuida a tu hermana." Then it hit her. It had many times that morning.
He wouldn't be the one going. She was. Today was her last day in town.
Her jaw tensed and her stare hardened so much it almost melted the plate she was glaring at. A blur of black caught her eye and she turned to see her cat staring at her. Eliana sighed, releasing the tension from her body and continued with her morning routine.

"Camilo. Still pretending to be other people so you can have seconds?" Felix sighed as he saw different foods stacked a mile high on his plate.
Mirabel's figure shifted back into a dashing young man with a big grin on his face. "I thought I could get away with it this time."
"Well it's obvious because I don't get half of the food you eat." The real Mirabel deadpanned and shoved him to the side with her hip so she could get her share of Ajiaco.
He scowled at her before heading towards the dining table, careful not to drop anything.
Breakfast was going great for Camilo until their abuela had an announcement. He glanced at her briefly before going back to enjoying his food.Alma stood up and cleared her throat. "I have great news! Pepa had invited some guests to stay for a while. They will be arriving two to three days from now and I expect all of us to welcome them with open arms-"
"Who's 'they'?" Mirabel interrupted, staring at her abuela with an excited gleam in her eyes.
"I'm sure Camilo can tell you more about them." The said man looked up with a confused expression, his cheeks stuffed with food.
He swallowed everything in one big gulp, "me?"
Pepa smiled brightly at her son. "I invited Señorita Pérez and her little sister to Encanto so you two can meet. It's been 5 years since you last saw each other and I'm sure she wouldn't mind staying for 3 months to catch up and meet the rest of the familia..."
She had been rambling so much she didn't notice her son grimace at the idea. Seems the pen pal thing wasn't enough and now he had to deal with Señorita Incómoda in person.
Meanwhile, his hermana and primas seemed ecstatic in meeting this Pérez woman that had been the topic of many recent conversations and sent teasing glances Camilo's way.
Alma watched them with a soft smile on her face, the wrinkles on the corners of her eyes smiling in hidden amusement as well. It seems like her nieto wasn't too fond of the pequeña dama. She wondered how the two even met and why he felt differently about her.
Well, they will all find out soon enough.
