Happy Valentine's day~! <3
-----------------------------------
Mal noticed her family had been acting strange the past few days. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but they were all acting off. Murphy simply grinned whenever she asked him if something was going on, which made her worry even more. But not as much as the delighted cackle that left Maeve when she asked her.
Not even her own mother wanted to tell her what was going on, which left Mal to ponder on her own.
"What's with the frown, captain?" Lumiere asked her one morning, hanging up decorations as Mal stood on her post in front of Ben's office.
"Nothing serious, don't worry," She said, flashing him a smile. But Lumiere didn't find it convincing enough, for he let go of the banner he was trying to hang so he could give her a pointed look.
"Is something wrong at the home front?"
"I don't know," Mal sighed softly, her shoulders hanging. Maybe she should just talk to someone about it. Sometimes she couldn't help but fall back into patterns of her childhood. Never asking for help, not wanting to talk things over. That's what you get taught after all, on the Isle of the Lost.
"Mila's been kinda distant lately, which only really happens if she's mad at me. But I don't remember doing anything wrong," She explained. They had no arguments, no disputes, no nothing!
Lumiere simply let out a good natured sigh as the elder man removed his glasses to clean them. "Mal, what day is it today?"
Mal stared at him blankly, not catching on. "Monday?"
The former candle let out a chuckle. Auradon was run by very capeable and powerful people and he couldn't be prouder, but during moments like these, when he caught a glimpse of the confused yet good natured kids of the Isle, his heart couldn't help but melt a bit.
"Valentine's day, the day of love," He told her, returning to hanging the banners for said holiday, a grin on his face as Mal caught on.
The dragon's eyes widened in suprise, a groan leaving her. "Of course, valentine's day! How could I have forgotten? Oh shit," She frowned, looking at Lumiere. "Do you think she's mad I'm not planning anything?"
Lumiere opened his mouth to answer when he noticed people approaching the hallway they were in. "Why don't you ask her yourself?"
"What?" Mal frowned, turning around to come face to face with a smiling Mila, a Royal guard next to her.
"Miss Maleficent Bertha Dragona, you're off duty from now on," Mila smiled, holding an arm out towards Mal, intending on escorting her to a changing room so she could get out of the uniform.
Mal glanced from her arm to her wife's face, starting to laugh at the smug look Mila had on her face. Lumiere was right, no way Mila would let an opportunity to be extra and shower her in love slip away.
"What about Maeve and Murphy?" Mal asked, linking her arm together with the redhead's, walking down the hallway.
"They're having dinner with Dizzy, don't worry," Mila smiled, making Mal chuckle. Those two rascals completely fell in line whenever Dizzy stepped up. As they arrived at their home, Mila let go, opening the door for Mal, only to stay outside herself. "Go and get dressed. I'll meet you in the Equatorial room, okay?"
"The Equatorial room?" Mal repeated with a frown. What the hell would they be doing there?
But Mila simply nodded with an excited smile. "Just get there, alright?"
The dark fairy simply shrugged, not seeing any reason to argue with her wife. She freshened herself up at the sink in the bathroom before heading to their shared room, laughing at the laying on her bed. Mila had truly thought of everything.
After getting changed and untangling her blue/purple hair, Mal hurried to get to Mila, only pausing for a second at the dark blue double doors, always taking a second to admire the work that went into etching all the star signs into it.
She took a deep breath, opening the doors only to halt right in the doorway, looking at the beautiful scenery.
Normally just the sight of the starry night would be beautiful, always perfectly clear thanks to the glass ceiling. But what truly added to the atmosphere was the thick layer of mist that coated the entire room, the stained glass decorations that created a beautiful light show thanks to the small balls of fire that swirled carefully around the room.
"Are you gonna keep standing there goddess, or will you dance with me?" smiled, stretching her hand out towards her wife, who took it with a big smile.
"You truly go above and beyond whenever you can, huh?" Mal hummed as Mila closed the doors, granting them some privacy as music sprang to life the second they stood in the middle of the room.
"Is this coming from the same person who threatened all the gods not to ruin our date on Mount Olympus?" Mila smirked, raising an eyebrow in a challenging matter, always facing Mal head on, even after all these years.
But the Dark fairy simply laughed, wrapping her arms around Mila's shoulders to hold her as close as possible. "Can you blame me?"
"Eh, not really," Mila chuckled, Mal joining in as they slowly swayed to the music.
Truly nothing could compare to being in their lover's arms, no matter how much time would pass.
Mila hummed softly, gently grabbing Mal's chin to make her look up.
"When the sun," Mila's smile widened as Mal's eyes softened. "Loves the moon, even the ocean feels her pull."
At her words, Mal pulled the taller woman closer, sharing a giggle as their foreheads almost collided. But they kept dancing regardless, Mal happily twirling under Mila's arm only to come face to face with the flames perfectly resembling her.
Mila smiled softly and wrapped her arms around Mal, her chest pressing against her lover's back. "Oh and the stars align every night, to spell out their love in tiny bright lights."
Turning to face the redhead, Mal got a mischievous idea, pulling away. "Oh when the sun loves the moon. Never touching," She grinned, quickly taking steps back, her eyes never leaving Mila's, who walked after her with a look of admiration, chasing her trough the room as if they were still teenagers playing tag.
Mal let out a loud laugh as Mila caught her, lifting her with ease. "But never far!"
The dark fairy smiled, stealing a quick kiss. "Oh at the break of day, my summer ray,"
"A moonlit night that casts away,"
Without a single word the two fell back into the same dance as before, admiring one another in the lights as they couldn't look away. "Their love remains. Our love remains."
Unknown to the two dragons, they both had the same thought. Every single hardship they faced, every challenge, every obstacle. It was all worth it, for it brought them here. Together.
Oh when the sun loves the moon
Mal smiled softly, cupping Mila's cheek. "Her golden light,"
The other dragon simply nuzzled into Mal's touch, pressing a light kiss to her hand. "Her silver hues."
A beautiful song
Oh, how they long...
Mila took a quick glance at the clock on the wall, before lovingly looking at the love of her life. "Happy Valentine's day, Maleficent."
Mal pulled her wife closer. "Happy Valentine's day, Miliana."
For Dawn.
