Now in the car, Jonas looked at Fiona in the backseat. "So what's this funny story?"
"As you guys probably know, my best friend died eight months ago," Fiona said slightly sighing her sorrow.
"This takes place right after I broke up with my exgirlfriend, Giavanna. Heading into sophomore year." Fiona said, laughing to herself.
"Hold the phone, you're gay?" Tommy said, slightly sad looking.
"I'm Bisexual," Fiona said slightly laughing. "Anyway,"
"Aren't ya' excited for the start of school, Fifi?" Ashlynn mentioned, grabbing her hand.
"Yeah, I guess." Fiona said, looking at herself in the car window. Ashlynn's grandma Rachel was driving the two teens.
"Cheer up!" Ashlynn said rubbing her hand on Fiona's head. Rachel started laughing at the two teens so bad she made herself almost pee.
"I need to pull over real quick. Nature calls," Rachel said. She pulled into the McDonald's parking lot. The two followed her inside and took their ten dollars and bought fries secretly. The ran to the car munching on the fries.
Then a bird flew through the window snatching a fry from Fiona's bag. Fiona got out of the car and swatted at the bird.
"Aye, my fries!" Fiona screamed. Ashlynn was laughing stepped outside the car and tapped her shoulder.
Then Giavanna appeared from the lobby of the building. Fiona froze for a second but continued to yell about her fries.
"I never date you," Giavanna said walking away. Fiona gave her a death look. Then a employee said they had to leave. Apparently they were acting anti-social. Rachel came back, and drove away. Never notcing the fries.
Fiona was chuckling. While they all looked at her weirdly. Then Poppi started chuckling.
"Dude, I can't imagine you screaming at a bird," Tommy said. Fiona continued to laugh.
"I was 15! Give me a break," Fiona said.
"Anyway to add on we were going to the Faire after this and Ashlynn forgot she gets sick off potatos and we had to go home." Fiona snickered. "Just a fun story."
"Y'all seemed like to be good friends. Do ya' have a picture of y'all?" Tommy said.
"Yeah, it's on my phone," Fiona said. She grabbed her phone out of her back pocket. She opened the main screen and showed the picture. Tommy smiled.
"Ya' looked like ya' were having fun," He said.
"Of course. Ashlynn and I just one states with her duet with Jayden, the choirs pieces, and my solo." Fiona said patting her shoulders jokingly.
"You're probably joining choir at our school right?" Jonas asked.
"Probably not," Fiona stated, taking a deep breath to relax.
"Why not?" Tommy asked.
"Cus' I haven't sang a minute since Ashlynn died."
"So you quit because of Ashlynn?" Jonas mentioned.
"No, Jayden." Fiona said. Her voice dropped sadly. Fiona could feel the edge of tears.
"Ya' can't quit over a horrible person, ya' know?" Tommy said.
"I didn't quit over him. He ruined my sense of music and made choir torture everyday. I just don't know if I can stomach choir again." She looked out the window.
"I think ya' should give it a chance. Our choir is pretty good. We almost won states last year but the Remington Dal school beat us." Tommy said.
"One, why the fuck didn't ya' tell me you we're a singer. Two, wanna know the big funny? That was my school." Fiona laughed.
"HAH! She beat you, Tommy!" Poppi cheered. Fiona laughed.
"Didn't I just tell ya'? And I knew that, Fi. I saw you there and told Jonas." Tommy said. Fiona rolled her eyes and looked at the window.
"Yeah I remember that. I got so pissed that day, man." Jonas mentioned. Fiona pressed her eyes closed trying to relax. So pathetic, getting upset over not knowing your past? You shouldn't of gone with your mother then. You shouldn't of gotten in that accident. Oh wait, you were a kid. Get over it and just move on.
As the group arrived home, Fiona went to her new room and started to unpack. She had some time alone and she just felt empty. She took her hair down and let it flow. Trying to relax after a socially taxing day is hard for her. She grabbed her phone and started to play some rock music. As everything became unpacked, her eyes set on the dress she wore to the choir competition.
Fiona doesn't know what she wants. She loved choir and being apart of everything but the pain of Ashlynn's death and Jaydens social, mental, physical, and sexual abuse ruined that experience at Remington Dal. It was moments like theese when she wished Ashlynn was still around. Though the girl had become toxic, and Fiona knew, she was the only stable thing she had left in her life.
She sat there on her bed, and listened to the music. The others hadn't bothered her yet, and she was greatful. She just wanted a social escape from everything. Without even trying, tears escaped from her eyes. God, you're so pitiful, Fiona. Stop being so pathetic. She wiped her tears quickly but they couldn't stop. Everything was too much. Was she a lie? Was everything a lie?
She had so much dread for everything thats changed she just wanted to run back to Remington and hug Marie and the kittens again. Did she rush to the descion to leave, sure. She regretted that for sure. Fiona held her tiny self closer. Listening to the pulse of the music again. She wanted to feel just, okay for once. She's only Seventeen.
Fiona noticed how the stars glittered in the sky and how easily she could see the moon from her window. She opened the glass and swung her legs outside and sat on the ledge of the window. She rested her head and just absorbed the sky. Music and the moon were the only things she felt as if she had left. Her long hair flowed in the night wind, relaxing her.
This was the moment she actually took in her surroundings. The shape of the pool, the deck, the garden, the pavillion, the flowers. It looked beautiful and truly like a home, but shes not sure its her home. Yes her brother and Poppi and Tommy seemed sweet, but she's just too reserved for them.
Fiona kept her focus on the night sky while the beat from her phone followed her. She knew that shed get yelled at if she got caught, but then she saw Jonas a couple feet down, sticking his head out the window. She heard him ask Poppi something then walk away, but he may have noticed her.
She sighed and decided to stay there. Nobody could control her in this moment. Plus, its the back of the house, nobody could report it from the outside. The situation was too perfect for her and, stability and perfection is too hard to find for her. A temporary okay.
