"So guys, how's band practice going? Have you chosen a song yet?" Sabrina asked Roz and Harvey when they finally met up with them at the library.
"Not good 'Brina." Said Roz. They both had worried and horrified expressions on their faces.
"Why, what happened?" Nick asked with his eyebrows scrunched.
They went on and told them about Satanic Panic. Apparently yesterday, a new band showed up out of nowhere and challenged them. Then Harvey shared what his dad told him about the band when he asked him if he knew them. According to Mr. Kinkle, they were former students at Baxter High and that they basically sold themselves to the devil for fame. Just like her encounter with Jimmy Plat, they had to offer him a soul, and that's what they did. They killed one of their schoolmates, Peggy Lou Simcox. Their fame was probably already guaranteed had it not been stopped by Mr. Kinkle who told what happened to the dead girls' dad. They died in a fire the day of the Battle of the Bands, which was the doing of Peggy's father.
"So what now? How are they even back?" she asked. Just then, a thought came to her. Nick told her yesterday that there were four souls that they weren't able to track using the crystal ball. He probably thought of the same thing for she heard him ask how many members of the band there are.
Harvey and Roz both had their eyebrows scrunched before they answered. "Four."
She and Nick made eye contact. The four souls that first escaped hell after Vinegar Tom. She turned back to her friends and she saw realization dawned on Roz too. Last night before she and Nick went to bed, they both filled them in on what has been going on.
"Why?" asked Harvey, who hasn't been able to catch up yet.
"Harvey, they're a part of what the newest Eldritch Terror resurrected," Roz told him.
"Oh, shit." came out of Harvey's lips.
"What if we all just dropped out of the Battle of the Bands?" said Roz with a worried face.
Just then Theo came rushing in. "Guys, we don't have to drop out." Then he went on about what Mrs. Meeks had told her, which was probably what the assistant wanted to see her for.
It seemed that the members of Satanic Panic had been busy. The members of the Stoned Philosophers, who was the band that first challenged her friends, had appeared to have been slaughtered. She had no doubt that it was them. If they could do it to Peggy Lou Simcox, then they certainly had no problems in doing it again.
This is bad. Really bad. Four students are now dead because of the Resurrected and there was nothing they could do. She and Nick need to go back to the Academy and ask if Mambo is anywhere near beating their Avatar. Why is it taking so long?
If there was one thing good that came out of it though, it was that the Battle was canceled. She didn't want any of her friends near the resurrected ones, if she could help it.
Just then, a circle of fire appeared with four people. "You wish, Kinkle. The Battle of the Bands is still happening."
And she jinxed it. She didn't need to ask who they were for when they challenged her friends in a battle in front of the gates of Hell, she thought, 'So this is Satanic Panic'. Harvey refused the challenge but the guy who he called Trash said that they are holding his dad captive and threatened his life if they don't participate. After that, they disappeared in flames.
