|Dan's POV|

When you try your best but you don't succeed.
When you get what you want but not what you need.
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep.
Stuck in reverse.

"Alright Phil, we're home." I stated, unlocking the door. "Our house is so cool!" He said excitedly. My heart wrenched at his words. He really didn't remember our home?

"This is your room." I said, opening his door. "Wow. It's amazing." He said starstruck at his own bedroom. I started to tear up, soon letting the tears fall freely. I ran into my room and slammed the door behind me.

And the tears come streaming down your face.
When you lose something you can't replace.
When you love someone but it goes to waste.
Could it be worse?

I was crying silently into my pillow when I started to remember some of the memories I had with Phil. Like when we first met at the train station.

I stepped off the train, looking around for Phil. I saw him a few meters away, his back facing me. I tip-toed to him, tapping his shoulder.

He spun around, grabbing me in his arms and spinning me. I rested my head in the crook of his neck, smiling in the state of pure bliss.

"Dan. Finally." He whispered, hugging me tighter. "I promised you I'd break the distance." I replied.

I'll never forget that day. The best day of my life. I sat in silence, uncovering lost memories of Phil and I. Ones that Phil may never remember. I'll help him remember. I swear to.

I stood, walking into the hallway. What I saw made my heart shatter.

It was Phil, clutching a photo of him and I close to his chest. He was crying silently, probably in the hopes I wouldn't hear him.

"Phil." I sighed, walking over to him and placing my hand on his shoulder. "D-Dan, I'm so sorry." He cried, dropping the picture and hugging me tightly.

"Hey, shhh don't apologize. You did nothing wrong. It's not your fault." I replied, grasping onto him.

"I want to remember Dan. I want to remember everything! I'm sorry." He said hysterically, his shoulders shaking as he sobbed.

"Phil, listen to me okay? I will fix you. I will help you remember everything you've forgotten. Look," I pulled my shirt down a little, revealing the promise ring on a necklace chain hanging loosely around my neck. "This is our promise. I promised. I don't break my promises."

"Oh, Dan. I may not remember some things, but I do remember loving you." He smiled, holding his hand up to my face to reveal the promise ring I gave to him.

I took his hand, leading him to my bedroom. "Lay down." I whispered. Once he did, I got in beside him, wrapping him up in my arms. I couldn't help but cry some more at the thought of him forgetting us.

I kissed the top of his head. "Everything is going to work out. I promise." I muttered into his hair. "I love you." He replied.
