"Goodnight, Spiderman." Tony says before leaving the room.
Tony POV
As I walked out of Peter's room, one thought kept returning.
Why was Peter looking at that information? It had been over a year since that spider bit him, so why look now?
I shook off the thought and headed to my lab.
"Hey, Fri? Is Stephen asleep?" I asked.
"Yes, Boss. It would appear that Harry Potter 2.0 is currently sleeping. Would you like me to wake him up?" She asked. I snorted at the name, finding it absolutely hilarious.
"No thanks, Fri. Let me know if he does wake up though, please." I said.
"Of course, Boss. Is there anything else I can do for you?" She asked.
"Play my all-night-long playlist. I've got a long night and a lot of work to finish. But keep the volume low. I don't want to wake anyone up again." I said, shuddering at the memory of an angry Natasha. Music filled the lab at once and I smiled.
I walked over to what looked like just another Ironman suit and gently pressed the model reactor on its chest. A soft click sounded behind me and I walked back to my desk. Opening the now unlocked drawer, I pulled out the prototypes for Stephen's new gloves and got to work.
~~Time skip~~
"Aaaaandddddd DONE!" I exclaimed triumphantly. I held the now completed prototypes out in front of me and smiled. These should do perfectly. They're designed to help reduce the shaking in Stephen's hands.
"Boss, Harry Potter 2.0 is awake. He is on his way to the lab." FRIDAY told me.
"Shit shit shit," I muttered. I quickly placed the gloves back in the drawer and closed it. Once I heard it lock, I pretended to be working on something else.
"Tony?" I heard someone call softly. I turned around and saw Stephen, still in his pajamas, yawning.
"Good morning, Stephy. What can I do for you?" I asked, walking over to him. Once I reached him, I noticed something was off. His eyes were slightly red and his hands were shaking more than usual.
"I didn't know where you were. I woke up and you weren't there." He whispered. I frowned slightly. This wasn't usually a problem. Then it hit me.
"Nightmare?" I asked. He nodded and I wrapped my arms around him.
"I'm sorry, love. You know it's not true, though. Whatever you saw was just a dream." I murmured, peppering light kisses all over his face.
"It was so real. Dormammu was back, but this time I had nothing to stop him. A-and you were there. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't do anything as he, as he killed you." Stephen said, trembling slightly in my arms.
"Shhh, love. It's okay. I'm here though. I'm alive. I'm safe. See?" I said. Stephen didn't reply.
"You were dead, and it was my fault. I did nothing." He whispered.
"Stephen, love, look at me. Please." He raised his head, eyes meeting mine. I smiled at him and kissed his nose.
"You see? I'm right here. I'm alive." I said. He looked over my face once, twice, before nodding.
"Come on, let's go get breakfast." We both froze when we heard rushed footsteps racing around.
"I'm gonna be so late. Bye guys, see you later!" We heard someone shout before it fell quiet again.
"It would appear that Peter is running late," Stephen said, laughing. I laughed along with him.
"It would appear so. Fri, stop the elevator on this floor, please." I said. A few seconds later, the elevator did indeed stop.
"What? FRIDAY, I have to go to school. Keep going." Peter said.
"Wow, no time to say good morning to your dads?" I asked, feigning hurt. He turned around, looked at us, and said,
"GoodmorningDadgoodmorningPopsI'dlovetostayandtalkbutIhavetogettoschool."
"Try that again, English this time," I said, entering the elevator.
"Good morning, Dad. Good morning, Pops." He said. I smiled.
"Fri, take us to the garage, please," I said and the elevator started moving again.
"The garage? Dad, I have to go to school." Peter said.
"I know." Was all I said. We reached the garage and I grabbed a key.
"Come on, Pete. Don't want you to be late." I said as I climbed into a car. He mumbled something under his breath before following me.
"I didn't quite catch that, bud. Care to repeat it?" He shook his head. I laughed and started the car.
"You don't need to drive me to school. I can walk." He said.
"I know. I wanted to though." I told him. The car was quiet for a couple of seconds.
"I can practically hear that mind of yours working. What's up?" I asked him. He looked down.
"Do you believe what Toomes said? About Spiderman?" He asked. I nearly slammed on the breaks once I had processed the question. I quickly pulled off to the side of the road and turned my attention on him.
"Absolutely not. Even if I didn't know who Spiderman was, I'd believe him. Toomes is an ex-convict. There is no way I'd believe him over the hero that's been protecting our city." I said.
"A lot of people believe him. They think Spiderman is the bad guy. I don't know if I can handle it." He admitted.
"You can. I know you can. Not because you're Spiderman, but because you're Peter Benjamin Parker Stark. You are the kindest, smartest, strongest kid I know. And you also happen to be a superhero." I tell him. He smiles. Then his smile falls.
"People at school are going to talk about it. There are going to be people who agree with Toomes." He says. I nod.
"People are going to talk. They'll say mean things, but you can't let that stop you. You have the Earth's Strongest Heroes to back you up. So don't think for one moment that that Vulture head is going to win. We've always got your back." I tell him.
"Thanks, Dad. I love you guys." I smiled at him.
"I really do have to get to school, though." He adds.
"Right. School." I say and start driving again.
When we reach his school, I watch as he gets out of the car and starts to walk inside. I start driving away.
"Fri, call Stephen," I say.
"Hey, Tones. What's up?" He asks.
"Gather the Avengers. We're going on a bird hunt." I say.
