When I come back to my senses it's already quiet around me. The machine must've stopped on it's own and thankfully I'm still alive. I'm not sure what happened. I'm just happy to not have died in some stupid accident. But the question remains: did the machine work or not? Guess I can only find out once I get out of here.
The lights inside the time machine are still working. It's thanks to a giant battery that prevents the need for it to be connected to an electrical outlet. Because, logically speaking, if I went back to the days without electricity, the machine would never be able to take me back to the present. Considering the possibility that the rat in our experiments actually went back to 1925 and came back again, I should be able to do the same.
I look around for anything to open the door, but quickly discover a fatal flaw in our design of this thing, namely that there's no way to open it from the inside. I need to remember that and tell it to Seokjin later. As of now, the only way to open the door is remotely from the control room. I decide to try and pry the door open with my fingers, but when that doesn't work I realize I'm running out of options. Oh God, am I going to die in here? If I went somewhere in time then no one will ever know what happened to me. Even if I didn't time travel, it'll still be days before anyone comes back to the lab.
I slide down to the metal floor, grabbing my hair from the sheer stress of the situation. My foot hits the spare oxygen tank and an idea strikes me. I pick up the tank and use nozzle as a lever to force the stubborn door open. The security lock is in place to ensure a safe transportation, so it takes everything I got to even get a crack in the door. I let the oxygen tank fall to the floor as I push my fingers through the crack to pull on it. With some more force I can get my foot out to stop the door from closing again while I take a breather. This is really hard work. We really need to remodel this damn thing. At least I'm the one needing to figure this out and not Seokjin who wanted to volunteer.
After gathering my strength, I use the last of my powers to force my body outside with the door shutting firmly behind me as I fall to the ground outside the machine. To my surprise it's not rubber flooring like in the lab I'm used to, instead I fall face first onto green grass. I spit out the straws that got in my mouth while I take a good look around. The taste of dirt lingers as I stare at the rows and rows of trees densely surrounding me. It's nighttime, but it's not freezing cold winter like I'm used to. It's either summer or spring here. Aside from the machine there's nothing but trees as far as I can see.
If I'd gone to the future, the lab should logically still be here, but since there's nothing but nature, I must've gone back in time. The question is just how much. What year is it now? And the most important question: how do I get back? In our test with the rat, the machine was still in the lab while the rat disappeared. In other words, there should still be a machine in the present that should theoretically be able to bring me back. But in that case I would need to stay in the machine until Monday morning, at least that would be the case if the machine was set to return me at that time. I have no idea what setting the machine had before it sent me away. I can't logically stay in the machine indefinitely. I'd starve to death.
The best thing would be to seek out civilization. The machine door was placed towards the south and the main road is also that way. In other words, if I follow the direction of the door I should hopefully find a road that will lead me somewhere.
I give the time machine a final, slightly angry look before walking away. Despite being one of the warmer seasons, it's still quite cold at night. My thick winter coat helps with that though, maybe even a bit too well because I start to sweat as I make my way through the thick forest.
The secret lab was built around 2015, so I must be even further back in time than that. All I can do is pray that I haven't ended up in the 1500s or something. I'd get killed on sight for my weird clothes.
