I know this was a risk

I know this was a risk. I know Hailey is technically a stranger who gave me her number. I'm not stupid enough to let my guard down around her.

But I am desperate enough for a friend to at least try.

I start a new message thread with her, biting the bullet and taking my chances.

Me:

Hey! This is Carlotta, from the coffee shop a while back...

This is so bad, how the fuck do I text a girl? Fuck.

Me:

I'm sorry it took me a while to text you, I've been so busy.

I snort at my pathetic excuse, fucking busy flying across countries, attending underworld conferences, fighting with the Italian mafia-

I stumble, my fingers hovering over my keyboard as I try to come up with what to say next.

Gods, I'm such a fucking idiot, this was a bad idea-

Just then, Hailey texts me back and I curse myself for not finishing my texts, now looking like an even bigger idiot.

Hailey:

Hey Carlotta! You're all good, don't worry, I've been pretty busy too! But I'm glad you managed to reach out :)

I look at the test, reading it over twice.

A small smile involuntarily makes its way onto my lips. I think we're still friends. She put a smiley face, that's good, right?

Me:

I was actually wondering if you wanted to meet up tonight? Maybe go out clubbing or something? Get our minds off things?

Gods, I sound so formal, am I writing a fucking email? Do I use abbreviations yet or is it too early still?

Hailey:

Girl, that sounds perfect. I fr haven't been clubbing in months.

Fr, she used abbreviations, ok this is going well.

Me:

Omg same.

Me:

I'll text u the details!

Hailey:

Sounds good babe x

So, I obviously have a lot to improve on but... did I just make plans with a girl friend?

I jump up from where I sat myself on my bed and can't help but squeal. I immediately dial Gigi's number and hold the phone to my ear.
