Thunder and lightning cackled in the sky as the rain beat heavily against glass. The rain fell in tandem with his heart that was beating wildly in his chest as Jungkook ran. He wasn't sure why or how long he had been running, he just knew that he had to get away.
"Kookie!" The rain stopped as the high-pitched scream of Esme echoed in the room and Jungkook found himself standing in the middle of her room. Slowly he walked towards her closet and pulled the double doors open revealing Esme seated in between a pile of clothes.
"Got ya!" Jungkook said reaching for her and Esme shrieked in delight as he tickled her. Her laughter was like music to his heart but all too soon her laughter turned into pain-filled cries and Jungkook looked down to find his hand covered in blood.
"Esme?" He called out in confusion as the trail of blood continued, it was everywhere and then he saw it. The bodies of his mother, father, and sister spread out on the floor. He took a single step towards them and a roaring flame snapped up in front of him blocking his path towards them.
"Mum...no." Jungkook cried as he watched the fire slowly take away his family, the heat was unbearable but he couldn't find a way out of it, and then soon enough the flame was engulfing him as well.
Startled out of his nightmare Jungkook woke up with a sharp inhale of breath as his eyes snapped open. For a few moments, all he could do was lay deadly still in bed as the images flashed in his eyes on repeat until he felt like he could finally breathe again. Many years had already gone by filled with endless nightmares but that didn't make the experience any more bearable. He'd never get used to the feeling.
Climbing out of bed Jungkook stripped out of his clothes as he walked towards his bathroom and then stood under the cold water as he turned the shower on. The stinging bite of the cold water washed away any remnants of the nightmare that lingered in his mind and then when he was done he quickly got dressed and then headed down for breakfast.
"Good morning master." Esther greeted as Jungkook approached the table; Celine, Atlas, and Thomas were already seated and had already started with their breakfast.
"Esther." Jungkook acknowledged taking a seat at the head of the table. "Coffee, please." He said and Esther nodded before leaving to go make him a cup, a few moments later she returned with his coffee and then left them alone to discuss business.
"People are already talking about the explosion, there's a lot of speculation going around the vine." Thomas said seriously as he took a sip of his orange juice.
"But they're just speculations, no one knows that we had something to do with it." Celine assured.
"How did Ezekiel handle it?" Jungkook asked.
"He wasn't happy about it, what we blew up cost him millions of dollars. According to our source, Ezekiel is already making arrangements to have a new location set up." Atlas said.
"Then we'll find the new location and burn it down as well, if he decides to set up another one we'll burn that one too until the thought of dealing with drugs physically repulses him." Jungkook said through gritted teeth, the simple act of talking about his uncle always made his blood boil.
"I went looking for Dario like you ordered." Thomas said wisely changing the conversation. "The idiot actually tried to pull one over me and then actually denied having any involvement with Michael."
"Do you think maybe Michael lied to us?" Celine asked tentatively a sliver of doubt in her mind but one look from Jungkook had her thinking otherwise.
"Dario's an idiot that likes to play games, he pulls pranks on people thinking that there won't be any consequences because he's an underdog." Atlas said with a shake of his head as he chuckled.
"It's worked so far hasn't it, the idiot is still alive." Thomas said chuckling as well.
"Have Derek clean out his accounts and send the money to charity, that should keep him busy for a while." Jungkook instructed as he took the last sip of his coffee. "Come on, let's go to work." He said and then stood up the others following behind him. Esther walked into the room then and Jungkook walked over to her while the others got the car ready.
"How is she?" Jungkook asked quietly.
"Still asleep, whatever medication the doctor prescribed is working." Esther informed him and Jungkook let out a relieved breath.
"Keep an eye on her for me, don't let any of the guards go anywhere near her room." Jungkook instructed and Esther nodded in understanding. "Call Dr. Nkwenti, have her recommend a therapist, and have them come in today to see her."
"Of course sir." Esther agreed and then Jungkook finally left for work. During the drive, Jungkook quickly went through his mail, by the time they arrived at the office he was on a phone call but stopped in his track when he heard Thomas mutter a curse word.
"Oh fuck." Thomas cursed under his breath and with the phone still to his ear Jungkook turned to him with an arched brow.
"Oh great, what does he want now?" Celine too said sarcastically and it was only then that Jungkook took notice of who they were talking about. At the sight of the man, Jungkook closed his eyes for a brief second and when he opened them again he quickly ended the call before walking towards the man that was a constant pain in his ass.
"Prosecutor Lincoln, to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?" Jungkook asked with a smirk stuffing his hands into the pocket of his trousers.
"I can assure you Mr. Herondale that my time spent with you is anything but pleasurable." The prosecutor said sternly and if Thomas could he would've punched the man in the face just for the heck of it.
"Well then let's not make this conversation any longer than it needs to be, what can I do for you?" Jungkook asked.
"You wouldn't happen to know anything about the explosion that took place downtown about a week ago now would you?" Prosecutor Lincoln asked pulling closer into Jungkook's personal space.
"Are you questioning or interrogating us?" Atlas countered and the prosecutor looked up at him with a mocking smile.
"I wasn't talking to you." He said.
"No prosecutor, we know nothing about any explosion. Terrible thing by the way, I hope there weren't any casualties?" Jungkook asked with concern and a tint of curiosity to his voice, if Celine didn't know any better she would have actually believed that he was worried.
"There were bodies, a lot of them, all of whom were gunned down before the explosion." The prosecutor informed them and then took another step forward so he was almost toe to toe with Jungkook. "That warehouse was filled with drugs and according to my sources you wouldn't believe who they actually belonged to."
"I can't say that I'm curious." Jungkook said in a calm voice looking directly into the prosecutor's eyes.
"The warehouse belonged to Ezekiel Herondale, your uncle." As the words were said it took all of his strength for Jungkook not to reach behind him for his gun and shoot the prosecutor in the face, instead he forced himself to let out a breath and smile.
"Now why would my uncle own a warehouse filled with drugs?" Jungkook asked and as the prosecutor got into Jungkook's face Atlas tensed and reached for his gun behind him wrapping his fingers around the hilt.
"You're slipping boy." Prosecutor Lincoln whispered menacingly and Jungkook looked down at him calmly. "You and your uncle think that you're invincible but you're just men and one of these days, sooner than you think I'm going to catch you and show the world what the Herondale men are really made of."
"Good day prosecutor, you can show yourself out." Jungkook said instead of responding to his taunt which just seemed to anger the prosecutor even more. Not giving him a chance to say something else Jungkook side-stepped him and walked away leaving the prosecutor seething in his lobby.
