Silence

Jungkook had started hating the silence ever since he lost his family. When it was too quiet his mind spun a lot, creating different scenarios of how he could've saved his family, the what-ifs were never-ending in the silence. When it was quiet he dreamt and in his dreams, he was always haunted by the ghosts of his family and the flames, there was no peace there and he hated it.

But this was different. Jungkook lay naked in bed on his stomach, the sheets covering him up to his waist with his head on a pillow while Autumn used his back as her personal pillow her head on his shoulder while her fingers traced the burn scars on his back in a feathery touch. This was peaceful.

"What happened?" Autumn questioned softly her fingers still running over the scars on his back. Jungkook had his eyes closed but her question made him blink them open as he released a breath.

"I got caught in a fire." Jungkook answered and he felt Autumn's fingers still against his skin before she continued.

"How?"

"My father has a twin brother Ezekiel, he's a drug lord here in Chicago, my father was the Don of the entire city. Ezekiel needed my father to give his approval to open certain drug routes in the city but my father wouldn't agree so Ezekiel had us all poisoned. My little sister Esme, my unborn brother, my mother, and my father all died in the fire that Ezekiel's men had caused, I was the only one that made it out alive."

"That's horrible, I'm so sorry." Autumn whispered tears filling her eyes as she imagined a helpless Jungkook watching his entire family die, she couldn't even begin to imagine how he must have felt in that moment when he thought he was going to die as well.

"When I woke up, the first thing I did was to kill the man that had ordered his men to set fire on us and when I became Don, I haunted down all the workers from the restaurant that had poisoned us and I killed them all. There's only one more person left and that's my uncle Ezekiel."

"I wish I could remember the names and faces of all the people that have hurt me." Autumn said and Jungkook turned around so he was looking down at her while she laid on his chest.

"Why?" He questioned.

"So I can do to them what they did to me." There was an edge to her voice that Jungkook had never heard before but he couldn't say anything about it as Autumn suddenly lifted up her head and smiled down at her. "Tell me about your mom, what was she like?" She asked completely changing the conversation and Jungkook released a deep sigh as he thought about his mother for the very first time in years.

"Aline Herondale was kind and pure-hearted, it's hard to find someone like her in the world we live in, the two of you would've gotten along well." Jungkook started off with a small smile. "My sister Esme and I weren't her biological children but not once did she ever make us feel like we weren't loved or cared for, both her and dad treated us like their own blood even when she finally got pregnant with our little brother, she made sure to remind us every day that we'd always be the first loves of her life."

"She sounds like a really great person." Autumn said quietly.

"She was, it was cruel the way she left this world which is why I won't stop until I make my uncle pay for what he did." Jungkook swore and Autumn snuggled closer into his side giving him a hug.

Sometime later after Autumn had fallen asleep Jungkook quietly slipped out of bed and got dressed before leaving the room. It was still early in the morning sometime around five am so the rest of the mansion was still dead and quiet but Jungkook knew exactly where to find the ones he was looking for.

Like every mafia house, they had an underground cellar where they kept prisoners and tortured them for information. Growing up Emmanuel Herondale had never once kept a single person in the cellar and when Jungkook had asked him about it his father had told him that he didn't want to taint the very home where his family was with the blood of men that didn't deserve to walk the earth.
