With each day that went by Autumn found it even harder to fall asleep. Whenever she closed her eyes even for a few seconds that voice was always there to haunt her and the torture never ended, tonight was no different. Waking up with a startled gasp Autumn sank back against her sheets in both exhaustion and relief.
It was raining heavily and the sound of the rain bouncing off the roof and ground was like therapy, washing away what remained of her horrible nightmare. When awake Autumn felt as if she were barely drifting through life and she found no peace in her sleep either, life was just too exhausting for her right now and she wasn't sure how much more she could take living like this.
Releasing a sigh Autumn slipped out of her bed and blindly walked through the dark out of her bedroom. She meant to go to the kitchen to get herself a glass of water but then stopped when she got to Jungkook's bedroom door. It had been more than a week now and Jungkook was barely even acknowledging her presence, if this was because of the kiss then Autumn wasn't sure how she'd feel about it.
Her emotions were riding her hard and without thinking she pushed open his door and walked into his room. The lamp by his bedside was on so she could see his sleeping form on the bed but Jungkook was anything but peaceful. The rain had managed to drown out his sounds of agony as he tossed and turned in bed from his nightmare.
Rushing to his side Autumn sat by him and placed a hand on his shoulder gently shaking him awake. Jungkook's eyes snapped open as he sat up in bed and the moment he took note of Autumn next to him, she was wrapped up in his arms while he buried his face in her neck. Autumn let him hold her gently patting his back while he shivered in her arms, she didn't think it was because of the cold.
"Are you okay?" Autumn whispered into his hair and Jungkook released a breath before slowly pulling back from her. Silently Autumn watched as he ran both hands over his face, lifted his knees up, and then bent his head over them. "You've been avoiding me." She said quietly after they had remained in silence for a while.
"Why are you up, did you have a nightmare?" Jungkook asked instead as he released another breath and then looked up at her. Hurt by his dismissal Autumn stood to her feet and made to leave the room but Jungkook wrapped a hand around her wrist holding her back as he stood up as well.
"I'm not avoiding you." Jungkook said as he tightened his grip around her wrist.
"Then why have you..." Autumn started clearly aggravated but Jungkook cut her off.
"I'm not avoiding you." He repeated on an exhale and then lowered his head. "There's a lot going on right now and my head's just not in the right place." He said and he sounded so exhausted that Autumn started to feel bad for accusing him. '
Giving a small smile Jungkook reached behind him in his bedside drawer and pulled out the box that he had been fiddling with for days. Autumn gave a curious look at the object as Jungkook opened the box and revealed a necklace, with one hand Jungkook made her turn around while he clasped the necklace around her neck and then made her face him once more.
"It was my mother's." Jungkook explained as Autumn filled with the object, it was antique but the stone in the pendant shone brightly and Autumn couldn't take her eyes off it. "My father gave it to my mother on her wedding day and now I'm giving it to you, it'll keep you safe." Jungkook said and Autumn looked up at him.
"I thought you were going to keep me safe?" She asked quietly.
"You should get some sleep, we've got an appointment with the doctor tomorrow." Jungkook said instead of answering.
"Jungkook I..." Autumn wasn't sure what she was going to say but whatever it was it died when Jungkook leaned down and connected his lips to hers. Jungkook kissed her like he had all the time in the world, taking his time to memorize every arch and tilt to her lips, how soft they felt, and how addictive she was. He kissed her like that for a while and then slowly he pulled away releasing a shaky breath as Autumn blinked open her eyes.
