CHAPTER 13

But yet, I put on a red lipstick to my naturally pink lips and I wore my long black backless dress. I had tied my hair in a loose ponytail.

“Yes?” I questioned.

I stood up from my seat and wearing a black ankle strap heels, I approached the drawer that’s just next to the bed. I opened it and from inside, I saw a very shiny yet an oldish model of revolver.

It was actually from my uncle, she gave it to my mom as a gift for her 18th birthday, and as an only child, it was given to me.

I could still remember the story behind this firearm, told by my mom.

That little moment when my mom was bossed by her own conscience. Mafias are known for having no remorse and sympathy, but there’s this certain person whom she hesitated of hurting for. One of her most hated person that ever got on her way.

My mom was always high at everyone, but this one person made her so insecure. The woman was very beautiful and rich, so is my mom. But maybe it’s the though that, the woman was chosen over her. Yet, my mom wants nothing but to be appreciated and be forgiven by that certain man after what had happened decades ago. My mom’s first love.

Her ex-fiancé to be exact.

Back then, she was naïve and reckless as a teenager. When she learned that he was already in love with someone, she already made a plan and that is to ruined that woman’s life and made them both be apart. Nonsensical, is it?

Because eventually, it only made him hate her more. Years goes by, and the engagement was cut off by him. Mom already learnt from her mistakes, until she met my father. She fell in love all over again.

The story didn’t end there. There’s still this vivid moment that I could remember in my early childhood. I met that man after being saved by my uncle’s men.

Dark Vasquez

“You’re fast,” he said.

I pouted and abruptly dropped the gun. “Baby brother!” I shouted loudly.

“Damn, stop calling me names.” He whispered almost imperceptibly, irritated at the term.

I rolled my eyes and chuckled. I looked at him. Despite having only a year gap, I always treated him as a baby… then. But now, I don’t think I could still call him by that word. Growing up, an innocent boy turned into a deadly beast you’re afraid you wouldn’t dare to met with. Through those amber and blue eyes, I could see the shadow of my father.
