Completely forgetting the objective, which was to bring Ren some coffee... Malaya couldn't just simply take her eyes off the woman.
Ren noticed this, the red pigment resting on Malaya's cheek disregarding the stoic expression she displays for work. He found it amusing that her younger sister disturb his secretary's common expression.
Something that took him longer than he would like to say. In a way it was his first rejection and somehow it just took a mere look from his sister to create a fluster Malaya.
Moments before Malaya entered, Vaani barged into his study to inform her older brother that their father is getting remarried again. She was upset that their father found a woman to replace their mother.
"She's probably a gold digger bitch trying to steal father's money! Or she's just waiting for the old man to die and get an asset!"
Ren didn't blame her for insulting the unknown woman since it happened in the past, besides their Father marrying this woman made it an outburst out of his younger sister. Yet he couldn't handle her nagging since it's just been annoying ever since they were kids; it always has.
"To make it even worse the wedding is in a week! A week! Why so sudden? We haven't even met the thing and they already plan to get married, how does that make sense!?!" She huffs with a hurt expression while pacing her brother's study.
"He told me to bring a plus one too, but I have no interest in attending such a vile wedding."
Before he could respond, a knock interrupted their conversation. Resuming from the start, Ren had an idea.
"Ah Malaya, this is my sister Vaani, Vaani you should take my secretary as your plus one" he evilly grins.
"What?" They say in unison with a confused expression on each of their faces.
"Yes, you should take her as your plus one. Weren't you complaining about not having one?"
"Did you not hear me? I said, I'm not going to such wedding."
"Well you don't have a choice you know-..."
Tuning out the conversation, Malaya could only think: a wedding? Who's getting married, and why are they dragging me into this?? His sister? A plus one..
Malaya blushed profusely to the point that the heat reached the same degree to the coffee in her hand. Speaking of coffee, she makes her way to leave the cup on Ren's desk. While making her way towards the desk she could now clearly look at the tall woman's face. Her honey liked skin with freckles sprinkled all over her face, and those fierce hazel eyes enough to pierce a hole in the wall. However, what Malaya liked the most was her cute butt chin that made her irritated face not so intimidating. Jesus what the fuck is wrong with me?
"Right Malaya?"
"Sorry what?"
"You'll attend the wedding as my sister plus one? Right?"
What why? Was what she would've said but the fact that someone other than him is inside the study she didn't want to show disrespect towards her boss in front of someone she's not close to; also that someone is his sister.
Ren knew this; that the Alpha wouldn't show insolence especially in front of his sister.
It was all part of his plan to persuade his sister to attend the wedding; plus giving his secretary an opportunity to experience socializing with others in a non-work manner. But to say that was all his reasoning is an exaggeration.
"Uh...yes." Was the only thing she could've said, giving no option to argue or oppose.
Malaya internally cursed herself; wishing she could say no and stay home with her friend cuddle up with her cat. I'll just cancel or come up with a lie.
She wasn't as outgoing. Peripherally likes to stay home to relax after her dedication to her job. Everyone deserves breaks, even the hard working woman. Though she doesn't want to ditch the beautiful woman.
Shit what was her name? Too mesmerized to catch the alluring woman's name she internally tries to recall the moment Ren introduces her. "Ah Malaya, this is my sister Vaani." Right Vaani...
"Will that work for you?" Vaani asked.
"Sorry what?"
"Next Sunday at 5 at XXX?"
"Yeah that's fine."
They exchanged numbers along with an amused Ren staring at the exchange. They'll get together just fine, he thought. He knew that he could persuade his sister, plus she has a beautiful woman going along her side. How could she refuse?
"Alright see you then."
Later on..
Approaching her apartment complex she spots her best friend, Jaemin, entering his apartment which is right next to hers. They decided to be neighbors to keep each other accompanied. "Where you go I go. I'll always have your back", a tiny Jaemin declares.
"Jae!" She shouts, running towards a now grown tall and handsome man. In grade school he was shorter than Malaya. Throughout the years he grew taller and taller enough to make Malaya the shorter one.
Jaemin often calls her out on how short she is, but Malaya always comes back with how she was the taller one in their younger years, along with some embarrassing memories that Jaemin hates that they're used against him.
Clashing into each other in a tight embrace, they hold each other for a few seconds until letting go. Some would think they're in a relationship however, the Alphas have been through enough to hold such a close relationship. Close enough that the small kisses and the holding are a regular thing.
"Min-min!"
Min-min, the nickname that was given to her by Jaemin when they first became friends. Growing up in Korea then later on moved to the states for a better opportunity, Jaemin didn't know much English. Going to an American school was tough; being known as the foreign kid including not being able to understand what the younger kids were saying to him. Other kids didn't know how to communicate with Jaemin so they left him alone, yet that didn't stop Malaya becoming friends with the kid. Malaya's name at the time was too hard to pronounce, so Jaemin decided that 'Min' was much easier name; also a common pet name in Korea.
"How is the hard working Alpha doing?" He stupidly grins, enough to crack a smile from Malaya.
"Mm.. how should I put it? I was late to work and somehow I have to attend a wedding as my boss's sister plus one. I would say great but we know that's not true." She pouts while entering Jaemin's apartment, heading towards the sitting area.
"That's not so bad. In fact I think that's great!" He reassures, holding two glasses of red wine.
"But it is, I don't simply want to go! I don't even know her at all and all of a sudden I have to accompany her to a wedding. I don't even know who's getting married!" She whines, taking a sip of the red wine to calm her nerves.
"You'll be fine, just think of it as an assignment assigned from your boss. And hey you need to get out more. Being cooped up in your house isn't good. You need to socialize more." He rubs his dramatic friend back.
"You sound like my boss." she displays a disgusted face.
"You're cute." He laughs at Malaya's scrunched up nose and knitted eyebrows that resembles a cute furious lion.
"Ahhh... that'ss not funnyy." She slurs, feeling a bit tipsy. To say Malaya is a lightweight is an understatement. No matter how many times she drinks to strengthen her ability to drink, she always fails ending up with an extreme hangover and loses recollection of what happened in those hours.
Jaemin found it cute that with one drink she's full blown drunk. Plus she looks like a tomato from how red she gets when she's drunk.
"Alright we get it. Now get some sleep, you have a big day to look forward to." Taking the empty glasses to the sink, Malaya surries off to Jaemin's bed.
Entering his room he covers his friend with a blanket and kisses her on the forehead.
"Goodnight, I love you."
"Goodnight, I love you too."
