*right after Bruno has his vision about Mirabel and the house.
Bruno stared down at the fresh vision in his hands. He tilted it several times hoping the good side would stick. But it didn't.
He knew what would happen if he showed this to his mother. She would blame him. She's already blamed him for so many things. She would never forgive him for this.
Worst, what would she do to Mirabel? Bruno didn't want to think about that. "I have to leave. It's the only way to ensure that this never gets seen."
He shattered the vision and left his room, looking back with forlorn eyes. Then he walked to the nursery where his little girl was undoubtedly sleeping.
He had tears in his eyes at the thought of leaving her. But he didn't want to force her to leave. She didn't deserve that.
He opened the door and saw her sleeping silently. Mirabel's bed was empty. She's probably with her parents, Bruno thought.
He went over to his daughter and caressed her cheek. She stirred awake and looked up at her papa.
She looked at his tears confused trying to wipe them away. "Papa what's wrong? Why are you crying?"
Bruno didn't say anything and hugged his daughter close, not knowing when he would hold or see her again. "I have to go away amor."
She began to cry not understanding what he was saying. "What do you mean? Go where? Why do you need to go?"
He shook his head, "I I just need to. Trust me it's better this way." She cried harder and shook her head. "No no no you don't need to. You can stay. Please don't leave."
Then she said something that broke Bruno's heart into a million pieces. "Is it because of me?" He looked deep into her eyes, "no no not at all mi vida. I love you more than anything Sophia."
He held her close, "I saw something. That's why I have to leave." She still didn't understand and shook her head. "Why can't you explain?"
Bruno sighed running his hand over Sophia's head. "They wouldn't understand. I don't want to leave but I don't think there is any other way."
Sophia cried clinging to her papa tightly not wanting to let go. Bruno held her as his shirt was being stained by her tears.
Bruno stayed there holding his daughter till she cried herself to sleep. He tucked her back in and kissed her forehead.
"I love you more than life itself. I am so sorry mija. Please forgive me."
He began to leave looking back at her, "and please remember me."
