Soulmates Preference: Michael Gordon Clifford
"Day 43; how ya doin', shortie?" Michael's voice was gravelly, as if he needed to clear his throat before speaking. "A whole month and twelve days without you, can you believe it?" He asked, looking down before crouching to place the beautiful bouquet of flowers on the grass.
He sat down a few inches away, just far enough for his arm to reach out.
"Still can't believe you're down there, to be honest." He said, he voice softening with each syllable. "Can't believe that you had to go through all that." He sighed, his breath coming out as mist.
Michael looked up at the sky, extending his arm to hold the cement in front of him.
"At least you're in a better place now, huh? Instead of in that bastard's arms at night?" Michael's fist clenched at the thought of him, the man that took you away from everyone, from him.
He traced your carved initials on the gravestone, looking back down.
It was quiet, clouds passing, birds chirping here and there.
"Sometimes.. Sometimes I wonder if maybe a small part of you knew." Michael said after a while. "I mean, you had to know how he really was. You were married, for fuck's sakes."
Michael's legs started getting tired, so he sat on the cold soil, legs crossed.
"You went through that whole thing in that dress, which you were stunning in by the way, and paid a fuckin' fortune. Then paid even more for that honeymoon."
The sun peeked out of the clouds, making Michael adjust his hoodie, the light hitting his eyes for a brief moment.
"Everyone was there, you remember? Of course you remember, it was your wedding."
"You looked so happy. You both did. Wonder if he was happy 'cause he had someone in his hooks."
He closed his eyes tight, inhaling and exhaling the crisp air before continuing.
"How're you doin' up there? You're probably, I dunno, watching reruns of Friends and eating some ice cream. Must be fun."
"It'd be more fun here though, I could be doing those with you."
Michael sniffled and rubbed his face, not wanting to cry.
"I could be doing everything you're doing with you, right at this very second. We could be, we could be going to the arcade or making fun of Luke right now." He frowned.
It was silent again. A van pulled up, a family shuffling out before it drove off
as quickly as it came.
He sniffled again, his nose runny. He wiped with his hoodie sleeve before covering his face. "Oh god."
He blinked twice. "I'm going to the convention with Sky on Saturday. Remember him? Gonna assume ya do. Mum's out at the groceries at the moment, and I'm heading to Calum's later."
Goosebumps nipped at Michael's pale skin, a gust of wind sending dry leaves flying to the ground.
"Ever since I met you, life's been a whole lot less like hell, y'know? You probably don't. Everything seemed more.. vibrant, and it was weird because it didn't always seem that way before. Before I met you."
"I love you." He said so softly, as if he was whispering his deepest, darkest secret.
In a way, he was.
"I love you, and if I had just said it sooner, maybe we wouldn't be here right now." He chuckled half-heartedly.
"Maybe you'd be coming to Calum's with me with about three boxes of pizza and a crate of silly string. Maybe you'd still be in bed with me because, God, this weather. Maybe I'd be able to call you 'sweet cheeks' and you'd get pissed and we'd end up using the silly string on each other."
Tears streamed down Michael's face and he quickly wiped them off.
"I love you, I love you, I love you. And fuck, I wish I'd said it sooner."
He nodded his head twice, lips in a tight line before standing up and leaving, bouquet leaning against the gray cement your name was carved on.
