Lost Father

The Big Dance

Y/N POV

The day of the dance I put a tie on over a now solid black shirt. But since I'm not one for fancy wear I keep the tie partially undone. Satisfied with my look I turn around to see Neo in a dress she made. Its top half is white with the bottom half being brown and a white sash around her waist. For her hair she has it tied up in a little pink bow.

Y/N: "Ready?"

Neo: "Yep."

We lock arms heading to the dance.

Yang: "You two look lovely."

Y/N: "You don't look too bad yourself."

Yang: "Well aren't you just a little flirt. Welcome to the dance."

She checks off our name as we enter. 

Neo: "Sure is a lot of people."

Y/N: "That's to be expected for a dance."

People begin pairing up.

Y/N: *holds out hand* "Care to dance?"

Neo: *takes hand* "I'd love to."

I walk us over as a new song starts.

I start us off. As we dance I look down at Neo to see her staring into space.

Y/N: "You okay?"

Neo: "Huh? Oh. I don't know."

Y/N: "Talk to me kid."

Neo: "It's just I'm still trying to process everything that's happened."

Y/N: "What about it's got you uneasy?"

Neo: "In the time you were away I was sad. I was scared you had left me. You know my previous home wasn't good. But then you took me away from it. Through the time we were on the road I begin feeling happy. Happy that I found someone who wanted me around."

She slightly looks down.

Neo: "But then you left. Left without giving me much of a reason as to why. I got really sad. The one person to have ever made me happy was gone. At first I thought you were just gonna be gone a couple days. But those days became months which then turned to years. I began to fear you were never coming back."

She begins to cry.

Neo: "I was hurting Y/N. Everyday I would pray for Oum to bring you back. At times I thought about going out to find you, but I knew I wouldn't last on my own."

She stops dancing hugging me tightly.

Neo: "I never stopped waiting for you. I knew in my heart you would come home. And that's why I never wanna leave your side. Don't ever leave me again."

I return her hug kissing her head.

Y/N: "Don't worry kid. I'm never gonna leave you again. I'm gonna stay with you always. Now and forever. You won't be alone ever again."

She tightens her grip.

Neo: "Promise?"

Y/N: "I promise."

She buries her face.

Neo: "Thank you."

I only smile just holding her tight. After our dance I lean over the railing watching the students dance. I'm joined by a familiar man in a suit.

Ozpin: "They sure are happy aren't they?"

I look down seeing Ruby and Neo talking while dancing.

Y/N: "They sure are."

He leans his back on the railing.

Ozpin: "I'm sorry for the hurt Ironwood caused you."

Y/N: "You ain't gotta apologize."

Ozpin: "Even still. You missed an incredible part of Miss Neo's life."

I smile standing back up.

Y/N: "Maybe. But something tells me I'm about to witness an even better part.

Ozpin: "Hmm?"

I point making him turn around. He then spots Neo and Ruby sharing a kiss.

Ozpin: "Seems she already found love."

Y/N: "Yeah. My little girl's growing up so fast."

Ozpin: "No matter what she'll always be your little girl."

Y/N: "Now you really sound like an old man."

He rolls his eyes as I slightly chuckle. After the dance as I make my way to my dorm when I'm confronted by Neo and Ruby. They whisper when I stop them.

Y/N: "It's okay, I already know."

Ruby: "You do?"

Neo: "And you're not mad?"

Y/N: "If your other half is the same sex as you then that's just the way it is. Plus if you're happy then so am I."

She smiles wrapping me in a hug.

Neo: "Thanks dad."

Y/N: *returns hug* "No problem kiddo."
