Later that night Kathleen walked over to Yugi’s bed and noticed he was still awake. “Yugi, can you come with me for a moment? There's something I want to show you. There's something I should have told you long ago.”
Yugi looks at his mother before nodding. Kathleen walked out of the den. “Our family didn't always live here, you know. We settled here after we found you.” As she continued to walk further the trees became thinner and fewer.
Yugi looks around and then at his mother. Soon she stops in front of an abandoned cabin. The humans that lived there were long gone. Kathleen slowly sat down. “On a very cold snow filled day we found you here. You were a tiny little one barely even able to see.”
Yugi listens carefully to his mother. “Mother…What is this about?” Kathleen looks at Yugi. “Son, I want you to know what happened that night. We later found out the whole story after adopting you. Shaadi learned a female Neko cat had just given birth to kittens. However as it is in all animal nature she saw that one of her kits was a runt. Like most animals she rejected him as she thought he was weak.” She said softly.
Yugi looks down. “Me….I was the runt…” Yugi whispers. “Is that why I’m so weak, Mother?”
Kathleen shakes her head firmly. “You’re not weak Yugi. Your skills are just different from that of others. But that's not why I'm telling you this story. After your mother abandoned you we were looking for shelter nearby from the storm. You were meowing for help and I heard you. We took you in that night and you've been with us ever since.”
Yugi looks shocked. “I remember. Mana said I was going to do something great.” Yugi whispers.
Kathleen nods as she gently rests a paw on Yugi's cheek. “Yugi I didn't save you that night because I pitied you. I saved you because I saw a spark of light determination and the will to live.I saw a strong soul.”
“Mother…. I meant to fight Seto, aren't I?” Yugi asks softly. “I’m supposed to save the pack.”
Kathleen is silent for a moment. “I'm not sure Sweetie but I do know that you were destined for greatness. I just want you to make sure that you make the right decision.”
Yugi looks at the cabin then at his mother. “Seto will hurt the pack and destroy it. I….I can’t let that happen.” Yugi said with determination.
Kathleen smiles then frowns slightly as she looks back at the cave where Yami was getting ready to leave. “But Yugi, are you sure you want Duke to be your mate? When choosing a mate it should be someone who makes you feel safe, loved and protected. Do you feel that way around him?”
Yugi looks at his mother. “If I fail my fight I won’t have a choice. I must mate with an Alpha.” Kathleen blinks and softly sighs. “What about Yami?” She asked though she knew what he would say.
Yugi looks at the cave Yami was in. “Why would he want to mate with me? He only pities me for who I am.” Yugi said before leaving.
Kathleen sighed as the snow began to fall. ‘Oh Yugi.’ She thought sadly as raised her head and let out a lone and sad howl.
Yami was halfway in the woods when he felt he was being followed and turned to see Seto. “What do you want?” He growled as Seto smirks.
“Oh I just wanted to come rub it in your face how Yugi is walking right into my trap. Duke only pretended to like Yugi. As soon as he goes to Duke he’s as good as dead.” Yami's eyes widened and he turned and glared at Seto.
“What the fucking hell did you say?” He snarls as the hair on the back of his neck bristles. Seto smirks and barks a laugh. “Why do you care? He's just a silly weak cat who can't keep himself out of trouble. Those were your words weren't they?”
