The rest of the school day wasn't the worst. She had good teachers, but she had no classes with any of her friends. But, Penny ended up having a class with the mystery boy from the beach.
Come to find out, his name was Daniel LaRusso and he had just moved with his mom to Reseda from New Jersey. He was such a sweet kid. Daniel had this charm to him that Penny could quite put her finger on. And god, he had this captivating personality that she just couldn't get enough of.
Penny had kinda wondered how things went after she left the night before. But she finally got her answer when she saw Daniel.
He had a huge black eye.
She had felt so guilty that she had left. She could've tried to stop it happening, but she knew Johnny and she knew her brother. When they found a kid to bully relentlessly, they did it without hesitation. No one could stop them.
At the end of the day, she had cheer with Ali. Her best friend kind of signed her up against her own will, because she knew that if she didn't take initiative, Penny wasn't going to do any extracurriculars.
After all the girls got into their workout gear, they made their way out to the soccer field. Ali was talking to Penny about how this opportunity would be good for her. It would get her out of the house and give her opportunities to meet new people.
While the girls were practicing, Ali and Penny saw Daniel with the group of boys from the beach the day before. Before Penny could even form a witty remark, Ali was grabbing a soccer ball and running over to Daniel. When she got close enough, she threw the soccer at him and laughed. They started having a conversation, but Penny's attention was ripped away when Bobby snuck up on her and purposely scared her.
"What the hell Bobby?" Penny whipped her head around to find Bobby and the Cobras laughing. "Yeah. Real funny you guys."
"What? Can't your brother give you a little scare?" Bobby fake pouted at Penny and started laughing.
"Don't you guys have a dojo to go sweat all over each other in?"
"Maybe" Johnny shrugged and winked at her.
"Nasty." Penny widened her eyes and muttered.
"Look. Our Sensei doesn't know about this. And plus it's only for the season, right?" Bobby reasoned with his sister.
"And the All Valley tournament isn't until December. So we've got nothing but time" Johnny added in.
"I like how you guys are talking to me about this like I care." Penny deadpanned at the group of boys.
"Then why ask?" Bobby questioned.
"I don't know Bobby. Why do you have to annoy me so much?" Penny fought back.
"I didn't know you did cheer Penny." Tommy laughed and tried to changed the subject.
"I didn't. But now I do." Penny said while crossing her arms.
"Why now?" Johnny asked.
"Ali signed me up." the girl gave a slight smile in hopes that would make them go away, but there wasn't really a reaction out of them.
"Maybe you'll finally get a boyfriend. You know every guy knows the cheerleaders are the hottest in the school" Dutch said smirking at Penny.
Johnny hit his shoulder and Bobby turned around to yell at him for making such a remark. Penny took this opportunity to look over at Ali and Daniel. Everything seemed to go pretty well.
The coach called the cheerleaders and Penny walked away from the Cobras, who were now fighting each other like buffoons. Ali was walking away from the boy with a black eye, smiling like an idiot. Penny heard him say "Daniel with an 'L" and she chuckled, Ali told him her name. Ali always had to specify with everyone that it's Ali with an "I" instead of a "ly". Daniel smirked lightly after he heard her laugh.
God if Ali didn't pursue him, Penny was definitely keeping her options open just in case.
"How's Daniel with and 'L'? Still dreamy?" Penny joked.
"Oh stop. And yes he still is dreamy." Ali blushed.
"You're tellin' me."
The girls could talk for much longer because they had to rehearse their cheer. After the chants, the girls did a mixture of different tricks.
The boys started playing a game and Penny didn't pay much attention to the tricks she was doing but to the game. The game started off pretty normal. Until, Daniel was dribbling the ball and some idiot went down and tripped him on purpose.
That idiot was Bobby.
Daniel lunged toward Bobby and starting rolling around on the ground. The boy threw a punch at Bobby's face. They were pulled apart and Bobby was screaming at Daniel.
Penny watched the scene unfold in front of her in shock. She couldn't believe her brother would do something like that to a kid he barley knew. She felt sick to her stomach at the sight of them screaming at each other. The brunette felt embarrassed to be related to her brother in that moment in time.
"This school sucks man. Sucks." Daniel screamed at the coach and ran off to go home.
Penny looked around and saw Dutch and Johnny laughing.
The coaches didn't need them for too long after the fight. They had seen all they needed to see.
Penny grabbed her bag from the school and headed back out to the soccer field to talk to the boys. They were still laughing about the fight. She approached them and crossed her arms.
"Hey watch out. Penny is gonna try and parent us." Tommy smirking.
"Oh god, what now?" Bobby turned around and rolled his eyes.
"It's the first day and you guys are already getting into fights. This is absolutely ridiculous." Penny lectured.
"Why do you care? You haven't noticed when we've done it before." Johnny argued.
"Oh I've noticed." Penny was starting to get annoyed
"Then why are you saying something now?" Johnny got closer to Penny.
"Because I'm sick and tired of your bullshit. You guys are assholes to everyone and you expect to never get called out on it. Well guess what I'm doing right now. Calling you out." Penny looked up at Johnny and made eye contact in hopes of getting her point across.
"Well looks like it's too late." Johnny said with a shit-eating grin on his face.
Before she could say anything else, Penny was dragged away from the conversation by her best friend.
"Penn, it's not worth it." Ali said while looking at the boys with disgust.
She didn't know much about Daniel, but she knew one thing for sure.
She hated Johnny Lawrence.
