When she saw Ali walk up her driveway, she sprinted out the door and ran up to Ali. Penny wrapped Ali in a hug as if they hadn't seen each in years, but in reality they saw each other just yesterday.
As they started walking up the driveway, Penny started apologizing to Ali. "I'm sorry. I forgot that they were on the phone. I just needed to tell someone about it. I really am sorry"
"Penny, it's fine. Don't you worry about a thing. Look I'm moving on from him and he should too" the blonde said as Penny opened her front door.
"Alright, alright" Penny said smiling. "I can't believe summers already over." she said as they walked up the stairs.
"What if we went to the beach for one last hurrah?" The blonde said, walking past Bobby's room.
Penny gasped and looked at Ali. "That's a great idea! Let's call Susan and Barbara and have them meet up with us there. "
Ali walked in the room and ran over to the dresser as Penny picked up the phone and waited to hear if Bobby was still using his phone. When she was met with nothing she dialed Susan's number.
"Hello?" Susan said into the phone.
"Hi there Suzy-Q. Me and Ali are thinking of going to the beach for one last time in the summer. Wanna tag along?" Penny explained.
"Of course I would! See you there!" Susan said then hung up the phone.
"Ali, can you call Barb while I find bathing suit for us?"
"Yup!" Ali took the phone from Penny and dialed Barbara's number.
Penny went through her drawer and found two bathing suits for the two girls. She asked Ali which one she wanted and she picked this blue and white stripped one piece. The brunette threw the one she choose at the blond and started putting on her bathing suit. She packed a warm sweater and jeans to put on when it got cold and she figured she would just pack what Ali was wearing currently for her.
After Barbara was called and the girls pack everything, they made their way down to Ali's house to head to the beach. Ali was a year older than Penny and has her license and a car.
They packed the car and started driving down the street. When they were driving out of their neighborhood, they saw a bright red car pull into it.
"There goes trouble." Ali said then continued driving.
"Him and Bobby better stay out of trouble. I don't wanna spend anytime cleaning up after those two while my mom is out of town."
Minutes later, Penny found herself looking at the ocean and smiling to herself. She had an amazing summer and was feeling really good about the upcoming school year. She took a towel out of her beach bag and laid it down on the sand. She'd always loved the beach. She felt like it was a second home.
While sunbathing, a group of boys playing soccer caught her eye. She didn't know any of their names. It wasn't that she didn't care to know them, it was the fact that they had thought she was like every other Encino Hills kid. A complete and total asshole. But there was one boy in particular that she didn't seem to recognize.
Ali seemed to notice them too, since she was closest to them and they were coming right towards them. The boys were circled up and kicking the ball all at once. The mystery boy noticed Ali and likewise for Ali.
Penny noticed them staring at each other with hearts in each eye. It wasn't like they were hiding it, but Penny found it a little funny since just an hour ago Ali's ex was listening in on their conversation.
The brunette couldn't laugh too long before the soccer ball was kicked into her lap. Her reflexes threw the ball up into the air and into Ali's hands. She threw it up at the unknown boy and immediately he started doing soccer tricks.
Penny smiled and stood up with the other girls to go into the ocean. She stayed back for Ali just because they were the closest. She once again saw them exchange flirty looks with one another. Penny rolled her eyes and pulled at Ali's hand to move her along.
Hours later the girls were sitting around a fire in a change of clothes while Ali's boom-box was playing mellow music. Penny noticed that Ali seemed distant ever since the interaction with the soccer boy earlier that day.
"Looks like someone's got a crush" she said while nudging Ali's arm with her elbow smiling.
"Oh stop. I just think he's cute. Definitely a change that blonde son of a bitch"
"You do know you're hating on your own kind, right?"
"Oh please, I'm not that blonde. I wish I was though."
"What? I love your hair color. It's so cute."
"Oh come on Penn. Don't you think it's too brassy?"
Just as Penny was about to say something, the soccer ball was kicked in their direction and thrown to Ali, for her to take care of it. The brunette watched Ali stand up and walk over to the boy in the red sweatshirt. She saw some obvious flirting and that the kid was showing Ali how to bounce the soccer ball on her knee.
The sound of dirt bikes snapped Penny back to reality. She looked up and saw multiple headlights. Immediately she knew it was her brother and his stupid friends. She looked back at Ali and saw them fall back. Penny hoped that Johnny Lawrence wasn't there. And if he was, that he didn't see that.
Ali kicked the ball in the other direction when she realized who might've been watching her and walked back to the group of friends.
In record time, the boys on the bikes rode down the hill and towards Penny and her friends. Johnny got off his bike and walked over to Ali.
"Hey Ali. I wanna talk to you." The blonde said crouching down to try and have a conversation with the other blonde
"Just leave me alone. We've been over all this. I don't wanna talk."
Johnny turned the radio off. "Well I wanna talk to you, alright?"
Ali turned the radio back on and in response Johnny turned it off.
"What is your problem?" Johnny asked.
"Look. Why you just take your Cobra Kais and get out of here? Alright." Ali said while picking up her boom-box
"Oh yeah right, that's gonna solve everything" Johnny took Ali's boom-box out of her hand and held it.
"John-" Penny was about to stand up for her friend when her brother approached her. "What the hell are you doing here Bobby?" she said crossing her arms.
"Just enjoying the final bits of summer. And hey that stunt you pulled today over the phone was totally not cool. You know how upset Johnny is over the break up."
She looked over at Johnny throwing Ali's radio on the ground. "Yeah. Real heartbroken." she rolled her eyes.
"You know, I don't like your attitude right now Penelope. The hell did I do for you to talk to me like this?" Penny winced at her full name.
Their dad was the only one to call her by Penelope. No one had called her that since he had passed a year prior.
"Look at you playing the parent. You know, just cause mom is away for a business trip doesn't mean you can boss me around like this."
"You know what? Fine. We're going home. We've got school tomorrow." Bobby grabbed her arm and pulled her towards his dirt-bike.
Penny looked back at Ali screaming at Johnny. The blonde boy was pushing the unknown kid to ground with the radio in his hands. She closed her eyes and hoped that no one got too hurt.
This was going to be one hell of a year.
