Penny and Johnny had been dating for a little over a month. Everyday, Johnny would walk his girlfriend to every single one of her classes, not caring if he was late to his own. The two had kept it a secret from Bobby pretty well, but Penny had already told Johnny that they had to tell him soon. No matter the outcome.
But at the moment, they were decorating the gymnasium for the annual halloween dance. The dance was practically a week before the holiday, just unlucky that Halloween landed on a Wednesday that year. Penny was with Ali, Susan, and Barbara blowing up balloons. She would steal glances at Johnny. She'd just admire the way he looked. He had his red leather jacket on and his headband. God was he hot.
Penny told Ali everything in school the Monday after the date with Johnny. She took it very well, for a person who's best friend is dating her ex. She was honestly glad, she could focus more on her little relationship forming with Daniel. Speaking of, Ali was a bit stressed out because Daniel had been avoiding her since the day they had invited him to Golf N' Stuff.
"How's Johnny boy doing?" Barbara said wiggling her eyebrows.
Penny looked over to Johnny and saw him struggling with a skeleton. She chuckled, "Fine... I think?"
"You better go help him. Looks like he's having a hard time. Needs some of your loving to help him." Ali joked.
"Oh whatever. I'll be back." Penny rolled her eyes and walked up to the Cobras.
She noticed Daniel behind them and he quickly left the gym. She'd tried to talk to him a few times, but she gave up eventually.
"How's the decorating going?" Penny asked the boys.
"You tell me." Johnny deadpanned.
"Don't look so distraught! It'll be ok." Penny grabbed Johnny's face and squished his cheeks. The two had gradually felt more comfortable flirting with each other in front of Bobby. He didn't seem to care that much most of the time.
"Why are you bothering us Penny?" Bobby rolled his eyes.
"Do I have to have a reason say hi to your friends?"
"I think you just want an excuse to hi to Johnny." Tommy joked while Dutch turned around and ran his hands down his body to act like he was making out with someone.
"Maybe I do." Penny winked at the blonde boy.
"Alright Penny. That's enough. Go back to your friends." her brother cringed.
"What the hell? I think I'll stay here and hang with you guys for a bit."
"I don't know what the hell got into you, but whenever you got this boyfriend, you've been extra bitchy." Bobby stated. "Hell, why are you even flirting with Johnny if you have a boyfriend?"
"Bobby-" Johnny started but was immediately cut off.
"No. She needs to hear this."
"But Bobby-"
"What are you her boyfriend or something?" Bobby looked at Johnny with furrowed eyebrows.
Johnny then looked back at Penny. She nodded as if she could read his thoughts. They had to tell Bobby. And they had to tell him now.
"What if I am?"
"Excuse me?" Bobby raised his eyebrows.
"What if I am her boyfriend?" Johnny straightened his posture.
"Are you two being fucking serious? Is this a joke?"
"No it's not a joke Bobby." Penny stated.
"When the hell did this happen?"
"Last month. Remember the night that Johnny blew you guys off? That's the night he took me on our first date and asked me to be his girlfriend."
"You lying piece of shit-" Bobby lunged at Johnny but the Cobras were quick to stop him.
"Bobby. You can't do anything about this. I've made my decision and you need to respect that. Hell, I wouldn't care if you asked out one of my friends. So why do you care so god damn much?"
"I don't want you getting hurt by some douchebag you think you know but you don't."
"But Bobby, I'm dating your best friend. You know him and so do I. "
"Fucking fine. Just don't kiss in front of me, ever."
"Thank you for being understanding. And for protecting me from all the other douchebags of the world." Penny wrapped Bobby in a hug and squeezed him tight.
"Wait. Does Ali know?" Dutch asked.
"Yeah. She's happy that I'm happy. And plus she's moved on."
"And so have I." Johnny wrapped his arm around Pennys waist and kissed the top of her head.
"Ugh. Get a room." Bobby rolled his eyes and went back to decorating.
"And you take a hint. Susan has been in love with you for months and you've been oblivious." Penny deadpanned.
"Really?" Bobby turned his head to look at Susan.
"Yeah dumbass. Well I'm gonna keep blowing some balloons. I'll see you guys later." she started to walk off, "Oh wait! What are you guys being for the dance tonight?"
"It's a surprise short stuff."
"Your no fun." Penny kissed Johnny on the cheek and ran back to Ali and the girls.
"We heard everything." Ali looked at Penny.
"I can tell. He seemed to take it well, no?"
"Maybe. I'm still debating on it." Susan said looking at Pennys brother.
"Gross. That's still my brother."
"I know. That's what makes him so much hotter."
"I'm still right here."
"Yeah." Susan slowly looked back at what she was doing.
"I told him to make a move on you."
"WHAT?!"
"Yeah. If I'm dating Johnny, I gave him the green light to make a move on you if he wanted to."
"God Penny- What the hell?"
"Sorry. Did I do the wrong thing? Should I have not said that?"
"No your fine. I'm just going to have to look my best from here on out."
"Susan. You shouldn't have to change for a guy. I'm the living example of how that doesn't work." Ali advised.
"Alright. Do I look ok?" Susan asked the girls.
"Yes." they all said in unison.
"Ok thanks." Susan said and started walking towards Bobby to go flirt with him.
Oh boy.
