Jin walks into the kitchen, one eye closed as he scratches his tummy over his white t-shirt.
"Morning," he says through a yawn as he joins the sisters after making a bowl of cereal.
"Good morning," June says, her hair unruly around her porcelain face as she pats her boyfriend's hand. "How did you sleep?"
Butterflies fly around Jin's stomach as he remembers what happened the night before. "Like a rock."
"Hey," Lily speaks up, her eyes finally moving from her own cereal bowl to meet Jin's. "Were you in my room last night?"
June frowns as Jin swallows his bite of cereal.
"Why would he be in your room?" June asks.
Lily shrugs. "I heard my door squeak last night and when I woke up and looked, I swear I saw someone standing there."
Jin shakes his head. "No, I wasn't in your room. Maybe you were dreaming?"
"I've told you so many times to fix that damn squeaky door," June says, shaking her own head as she eats a spoonful of cereal. "Were you sleeping with your window open? Maybe the wind blew it."
"I hate the cold," Lily scrunches her nose. "Why would I do that?"
Jin hums. "I can fix the door today while you two are at work."
Lily bites the inside of her cheek. "Thanks."
"Don't worry about it," June says, nudging her sister. "It was just a dream. You said it yourself that you woke up and looked right at the door immediately after. You were probably still mostly asleep and your dream carried into the first few moments you were awake."
Lily shrugs again. "That makes sense."
Jin pushes his empty bowl away. "Are you okay, Lily? I promise I'm not some creep staring at you while you sleep."
Lily stares down at her bowl for another moment before shaking her head and laughing. When she looks up at the couple next to her, her eyes seem less troubled. "I know, Jin. Don't worry. It just freaked me out, but I'm sure it was just a dream."
"I'll get that door fixed for you," Jin promises, smiling at Lily before turning to kiss June on the cheek. "You two had better get ready. Those grocery store shelves aren't going to stock themselves."
June groans, holding her face in her hands. "Don't remind me. I can't wait until I can retire."
"You're 24," Lily says, rolling her eyes. "I'll get to retire before you."
"You're only two years older than me," June exclaims as the two walk down the hallway together, bickering back and forth.
Jin sighs to himself, his heart pounding in his chest at the close call. He gathers up the bowls, kisses June's forehead when she comes to tell him they're leaving, and after finishing the dishes, Jin decides to deep clean the entire house to get his mind distracted from the ache.
