These kinds of moments are the moments I dread, getting my test results back. I hate it, I hate school, I hate the subjects, and I hate science. It's a pointless subject that you have to do for most of your schooling life. I don't even want to have anything to do with science when I'm older. I could be spending time doing something that would actually help me for when I'm older, but no, I'm suck spending an hour each day such in a stupid science lab, learning the most boring subject ever.
But for the test, I know I failed, because I didn't know any of the answers as soon as I got the sheet. I looked at my results 38%. I was just scared about when I get home, how my mum is going to react. She knows I'm not good with science, but she thinks that I can at least pass it, "maybe if you don't have such a negative attitude to it, you might do better," the words maybe, and might. Maybe and might, words that are not positive or negative, they words that make you sit on the fence. Therefor my scientific question, for this science related topic we are on right now, is if you use the word maybe or might, does it increase the chances of a positive outcome? Is that a scientific question, I don't know, truly? I don't care.
I slowly walked home from school, each step I'm taking, getting more and more nervous about what my mum will say about my results. I walked up my drive way, kicking the stones trying to distract myself from what is going to happen next. I hoping that my mum wouldn't be home, but of course with my luck..."JESS?" my mum yelled from the kitchen
"YEAH MUM" I yelled back, letting her know if was me. I walked into the kitchen where she was.
"I got a call from your science teacher today" she said while cooking dinner, looking up from her cooking, rising an eyebrow at me,
"I'm sorry mum! I just can't do science! It's not my fault. I study, I really do." I said trying to defend myself
"I know, I know, but he called up and said it would be a good idea for you to get a tutor. So I said yes and one of his students has a sister who is willing to help tutor you" she said calmly.
"What's her name?" I asked her
"Mali" she says "oh yeah I know her, she was a few years above me" I said grabbing an apple.
"Yeah well she's coming around in an hour, so go and get ready."
I went up to my bedroom, throwing my old rugged school uniform away, grapping a pair of denim shorts, I plain black top. I grabbed my science books from my bag and went down to the study room, seating up everything, before Mali came. I sat down, finally being able to eat my apple while waiting.
An hour later there was a knock at the door "Jess" my mum said heading to the door.
"Coming" I say turning the TV off, walking over to the door.
"Hi, you must be Mali" my mum says, "I'm Megan" mum holds out her hand for it to be shaken
"Hi Megan, it's nice to meet you" Mali says shaking my mums hand.
"Come on in" mum says
"Thankyou" Mali says walking into the house.
"Hi, I'm Jess" I said, walking up to my mum and the girl standing in the doorway,
"I'm Mali, your tutor" she's says. She seems nice; I just hope she can help me pass science.
*1 hour later*
"See there you go, now you got it" Mali says. Then she looks at her phone and sees the time. "Okay, I'm done for the day, have to go and pick up my brother from his band practice. You might know him Calum Hood?" she looks at me packing up her stuff,
"Umm yeah I think I do, he's the year above me." As soon as I finished talking mum came in
"Thank- you so much Mali, here you go" mum says handing Mali some money,
"Thank-you Megan" Mali says taking the money.
"When should we do this next?" my mums ask.
"I'm re-taking my test next Tuesday, any time before there?" I told them, packing up my books,
"Well you can't do the weekend I need you to baby sit Gracie and Jordan," my mum looked over at me. Gracie and Jordan are my cousins, I don't really talk to them, they live over in Perth, come around maybe once, twice (if we are that unlucky) each year. I get left to baby sit them, the little rugrats that they are. Okay so maybe I'm complaining a bit too much.
"You can come around to mine on Monday if you want to, I have to pick up my brother from school anyway, I only live a few blocks over" Mali suggested
"That would be great, thank-you so much" my mum says walking to the door, showing Mali out.
"Thanks again" I wave good bye to Mali
"Anytime, I'll see you on Monday" she says waving walking to her car.
"How did that go?" mum asked me
"Yeah, I actually understood a lot"
"Well that's good, now tidy up, dinners ready".
*just going to skip to Monday*
I was walking over to my lunch table when Beth, my best friend, and a few other of my friends sit at lunch when someone came up next to me. "You're Jess right? Jess Moor?" I looked up to see a brown eyed boy looking down at my smiling,
"Yeah, I am?" I almost questioned myself,
"My sister, Mali, is tutoring you after school?" He asked again, smiling
"Yeah, you're Calum, right?" I asked,
"Yeah I am, just meet me at the main gates after school, that's where Mali's picking us up" He smiled before turning around and walking away.
--
I walked out of school, going main gates when Calum told me to go.
"Jess" I looked to my right to see Calum leaning up against the wall, I turned around and walked over to him, there was another guy with him, blonde hair. "Hey" Calum smiled,
"Hi" I smiled back,
"This is Luke" Calum nodded his head over to the blonde hi,
"Hi" he almost whispered,
"Hi" I tried to be the confident one.
The whole time we were waiting, and talking. Calum was just running though my head. That was when I noticed how brown his eyes were, that little spark that he had when he was smiling.
Shut up Jess, you just met the guy.
