"Now arriving at Rift Station, Binary Helix research facility." The VI reported as the tram slowed to a stop, the doors opening allowing the team to disembark...
"Stay alert. There could be survivors," said shepard.
"We haven't seen any so far, not even bodies. Could anyone have survived?" Garrus wondered as they moved deeper into the facility. There were several sealed doors along the way, but they managed to find an elevator that took them to the barracks.
When the doors opened but the team were forced to duck into cover when bullets bounced off the metal walls around them.
"Hold fire!" Someone shouted and the rounds quickly stopped. The team slowly peered out, their weapons raised but relaxed when they saw a small group of security guards standing behind their makeshift barricade.
A bald, dark-skinned man in white armour stepped forward when they approached. "Sorry about that. We couldn't be sure what was on the tram when it arrived."
"I would have done the same. Just make sure that what you're shooting at is actually hostile," said shepard. "Can you give me a rundown of what's happening around here, Mr..."
"Captain Ventralis. And as for what's happening around here? Bugs. Zillions of 'em, coming through tunnels from the hot labs. My team's been running on stims for days now trying to keep what survivors we managed to gather alive." said the Captain. "Look, you're human, and the rest of your team walk on two legs so that's enough for me not to shoot. But I'd like to know who you are."
"Commander Shepard, I'm with the Alliance and also a Council Spectre. My team and I are here to find Matriarch Benezia." said the Commander.
Ventralis looked surprised for a moment before speaking. "Benezia? Yeah, she's been through here. The bugs overtook the hot labs last week. The only one that made it out was Han Olar, but he isn't talking much. The next thing we know, the bastards were crawling through my command post...We had more people then."
Shepard nodded, "My crew and I are packing heat and metal. If they wanna fight with claws and teeth, it won't end well for them."
"I can't thank you enough, we could use all the help we can-" The Captain was cut off when the nearby vents ruptured and a swarm of Rachni poured into the corridor.
Kaine grabbed one and began to supercharge his gauntlets. Before a giant explosion of electricity fried the rest.
"W-What the hell was that?" Ventralis stuttered, he and his men are now terrified of Kaine.
"Just our rookie," Shepard answered with a smirk.

The group turn to find an elevator to the upper floors.
Stepping off of the elevator, the team began to check their weapons and gear. "How are we going to do this?" asked Garrus drawing his rifle.
"If Benezia's in there with the Queen she will not be alone. Geth and her escort will most likely be waiting to ambush us once we're inside," Shepard said as she drew her own gun before casting a worried glance over at Liara. The young Asari had her eyes closed taking deep breaths as she attempted to calm herself. "You don't have to do this Liara, the four of us can handle it if you're not ready to," said Shepard letting her compassionate nature out.
"No, I am fine," said Liara opening her eyes and glaring at the doorway at the top of the stairs. "I need to face her, and understand why she's doing this."
