3rd POV

Kaine sat down in his chair, shifting under the gaze of Shepard. Her emerald eyes bore into him. His form shifted and twitched as his voice got lost in his throat. "Kaine, I believe it's time we talked." Kaine remained quiet but nodded in response.

"This is coming to the end of this mission. I know you can hold your own but I need to know I can trust you. Ever since you joined us more and more questions have kept coming. I need answers now." Shepard glared down at Kaine before resting a hand on his knees. Kaine said nothing before suddenly retracting his helmet. His dark brown hair fell out loosely and his blue eyes glowed an unnatural blue. "alright, I will answer what I can."

Shepard nodded before speaking. "firstly, is your name actually Kaine?" Kaine took some time before speaking. "kinda, my original name was lost to me but my friends named me Kaine." Shepard looked sceptical but continued. "Ok, what do you know about the Reapers? you seem to know more than you let on."

Kaine sighed before opening his right palm. a glowing image lit up before clearing up. "as you know, the reapers wiped out the protheans. but they are older than them far older. Shepard nodded again before asking another question. "and how do you know this?"

with that Kaine froze, his body remained stiff for a few moments until he answered. "We have a bit of history. We clashed before, I believe during my time with athane. back in asari history. I figured out that the protheans didn't make them, since they didn't match their style. The asari didn't make them for the same reason." Shepard nodded, while slow, she was glad she was making progress.

"Alright, then where did you come from? you mentioned fighting geth before, so my guess is from geth space. but no humans live out there. and you were apparently around thousands of years ago. So, ancient earth?" Shepard asked slowly, hoping that Kaine would open a small part of his personal past. With every mystery surrounding him. Every answer only leads to more questions. She hoped, that maybe she could get something.

Kaine said nothing for a few moments before tears threatened to start pouring from his eyes,  "I... don't remember. it's been so long since then." shepherd's eyes squinted but nodded, then continued asking. "ok? what about that dream place. the one with the mechanical dragon and walking temple?" Shepard asked as she leaned back in her chair.

Kaine looked down before answering. "as I said before, it's an artificial realm. It replays major conflicts I have been in. It helped me learn, to improve, to grow stronger." Kaine clenched his fist before removing his right gauntlet. "As they say, experience is the greatest teacher." Shepard's eyes scanned over his arm. Scars ran along his skin, with patches of burnt skin and marking from stitches twisted around it.

Shepard looked on with curiosity before asking another. "Kaine, dr chakwas mentioned that you had the DNA of multiple species. Care to explain how this happened?"  at first Kaine looked at her. Shepard could have sworn that his eyes shifted in colour but ignored it for now. "I am an artificially made organism. DNA was mashed together to get the best results. A krogan's strength, the asari melding, a quarian's mind, salarians mental processing and many others." Shepard stared in horror, the idea of someone being stitched together from multiple species sickened her to the core.

Shaking away her shock, Shepard asked her last question. " how are you feeling about this mission." Kaine grinned while massaging his knuckles. "I little nervous, but more confident with our new allies. though Sovereign is more of a concern. It is larger than any of our war vessels and posses far stronger firepower."
