Chapter 14: Beginning of the end

As the Normandy soared through space, Kaine was spotted staring out a window. His body was fully healed, but still resting with scars. Faint footsteps drew his attention, in which he turned to see liara and tali standing behind him.

Raising an eyebrow he gestured for them to stand with him. "hey guys, how's it going?" he asked, which made liara and tali shrug. "we're ok, more worried about you." liara said as she rested a hand on his shoulder. Kaine smiled at her before looking out to the abyss of space. "I'm fine now. The council pissed me off, but they won't stop us."

he then turned to face the two before pulling them into a hug. "thanks... for helping me." he whispered as the two wrapped their arms around him. "no problem, but don't think of blaming yourself again, you got that." tali said, her eyes squinted behind her mask which made Kaine smile. "got it... sorry about the gauntlets." but tali simply shook her head. "it's ok, maybe we can make another set after all this is done with," she said which made Kaine laugh.

tali then turned a little serious and asked, "but, what are you going to use, without your gauntlets what will you do?" Kaine looked at her before raising his hand and closing his eyes. his body shook for a moment before Armour plating erupted and coated his arms. "these should do." tali nodded to him before watching the armour retract away.

liara then tapped Kaine on his shoulder. He turned to see her bouncing on her feet, and then she spoke. her voice stuttered out, "Kaine... I... I have to thank you for saving my mother. I owe you a lot for that." she said as some tears dripped from her eyes. Kaine gently rubbed them away as he smiled at her. "consider it thanks for waking me up." 

liara nodded, "of course, I can't imagine staying asleep for that long." Liara's face then turned to that of curiosity. "Kaine, what do you plan on doing after this? where will you go?" 

Kaine hummed, remaining quiet for a few moments. "I have plans, sovereign will only be the beginning. I plan on finding a way to delay the reapers as much as possible but I also plan on being prepared for when they inevitably arrive." Kaine's fists clenched tightly before releasing. "but I need allies. I intend on reaching out the all the races in hopes, perhaps I can gain their support. First, I will start with thessia." Liara's eyes widened in realization. "of course! using your status as Tukru, right?" 

kaine nodded but then Tali spoke up. "Kaine, could... could you also help the Quarian Flotilla? with your knowledge and how your DNA works, We could use your help." Kaine turned to her and smiled. "indeed, I have plans on something big. and I could use the quarian's help in engineering. So you help me, and I'll give you all the help I can give."

This made tali clasp her hands with glee. "we'll take all the help we can get." 

suddenly Joker's voice interrupted the moment as he spoke over the speaker. "guys, we got the mu relay coming up. Get ready for the jump."

the trio nodded to one another before making their way to the cockpit.

The Normandy flew straight toward the Mu Relay. Pulling up alongside the large structure as the eezo contained within charged the ship before catapulting it off into the distance.

After a few minutes, the ship came out its jump near a second relay as it drew closer to Ilos. "Uhh...We've got company guys," said Joker as Jane, Kaine, Liara, Tali, Ashley and Pressly stood around the cockpit behind him.

"Have their sensors picked us up yet?" asked Liara.

"Stealth systems are engaged. Unless we get close enough for a visual, they won't have any idea we're here," said Joker.
