"I'm sorry," Scarlet scoffed, giving a disgusted look, "he said what?"
"I know!" you exclaimed with another sigh of frustration, leaning your head back to stare up at the roof of her bedroom. After the two of you had left the diner, you returned to Scarlet's house. Your friend was laying on her stomach on her bed, looking down at you as you laid on your back against her floor. There was enough room for both of you on the bed, but you preferred to not be squished. "He is either just a really good actor, or he actually didn't remember my name."
"I mean, damn, it's not like he sat right next to you for the entire school year!" she said sarcastically, giving a bitter chuckle. "Oh, he's so lucky I wasn't there. I would've punched him right in that stupid, really handsome face!"
You couldn't help but let out a laugh at her words, finding it hard to stay upset when you were with her. That's why Scarlet was such a good friend; even if she didn't mean to do it, she always found a way to cheer you up. You could feel yourself relaxing in her presence.
She giggled softly at your reaction, moving to sit up as she crossed her legs. "I was being serious!" she whined, smacking a hand against her thigh, "nobody messes with my best friend! No matter how cute they may be! Just say the word and I'll kill him."
"Scarlet Madison!" You gasped at her words, using her full name to express just how surprised you were. Scarlet rarely ever got mad at anyone, so to hear her make a threat like that was shocking.
"I wouldn't really..." she grumbled, giving a pout as she averted her gaze away from you, "... maybe."
"Stop it!" You squealed, breaking out into another fit of laughter. Once you calmed down, you let out a deep sigh as you moved to sit up from the floor, "no, but seriously... he's just an asshole, just like every other teenage boy in this town."
"Yeah..." she sighed deeply, shaking her head, "there really is no hope of ever getting a good boyfriend around here... at this rate, I'm just gonna date a woman."
You snorted at her comment, shaking your head as you stood up from the floor, "good one," you chuckled. Your back was facing her as you walked over to grab your book bag, so you failed to notice the quick flash of hurt that crossed her face.
"You're leaving?" She asked, moving to stand up as well, "I thought you wanted to spend the night?"
"Yeah, I did, but Mr. Afton said he would call me sometime this weekend to tell me when I could start," you explained, pulling your bag on over your shoulders, turning to face her again, "I need to be home in case he does. I don't think he'll fire me if I miss it, but I really don't wanna take the chance."
"Okay..." she sighed in disappointment, before giving you a stern look, "well, once you get your schedule figured out, let me know when you're free to hang. We're not gonna have a boring summer just because you're working now!"
"Maybe you should also get a job?" you suggested, beginning to walk after her as she lead you out of the room, "then we could both have money?"
"Eh," she shrugged, "I'll think about it, I guess. But I am not working at that place with you, sorry. Unlike you, I couldn't stand to be near those creepy robots all day."
You were a bit disappointed that you couldn't work with your friend, but you supposed you couldn't really blame her. Those things were spine-chilling to look at, but at least you only had to see them for a little while during the show times. You don't know what you would do if you were forced to watch them all day. Besides, you probably wouldn't be able to focus on your work anyway if Scarlet was there distracting you.
