This is so wrong.
You would always tell yourself that whenever you found yourself in this familiar situation, and yet, you just couldn't bring yourself to stop.
It had been about two months since you started dating Michael, and a little over a month since your best friend, Scarlet, had started dating one of his best friends, El. The two of you were in happy, healthy relationships, and yet... it didn't stop the two of you from being drawn to one another.
From the very first moment that Michael had introduced you to his female friend, it felt like there was an invisible wire pulling you closer to her. You knew it was wrong to feel this way towards one of your boyfriend's best friends, but you couldn't help the way you felt. Something about her was just so intoxicating.
You could tell from the way her gaze would linger on you that the feeling was mutual. Her honey-colored eyes would lock with your own, before slowly trailing down to the plump of your lips, and even lower as she examined the curves of your body hidden beneath your clothing. Whenever she looked at you, it gave you the sensation of being dipped in boiling water.
Your stomach churned with guilt the longer these thoughts swirled around in your head. You shouldn't be thinking about her this way; you were dating Michael, and he was absolutely wonderful. Michael had turned out to be surprisingly sweet and kind towards you, and yet here you were, completely ignoring him in favor of his friend.
After spending countless nights laying awake while being haunted by dreams of El doing unspeakable things to you, an imaginary lightbulb suddenly appeared over your head. You came up with an idea to hopefully draw El's attention away from you and onto someone else. That someone just so happened to be your childhood best friend, Scarlet.
Scarlet had already met El once before, and you could clearly tell that your friend was attracted to her. You encouraged the redhead girl to accompany you to hang out with Michael and his friends again, which she reluctantly agreed to.
You weren't surprised to find El sneaking glances your way, but this time, you decided to use it to your advantage. Since Scarlet had been glued to your side practically the entire night, you decided to tell a little lie; you leaned over to whisper in your friend's ear, telling her; "El's been looking over here all night. I think she's checking you out."
It didn't take long for Scarlet to also catch on to El's lingering gaze, and she soon became quite flustered. It didn't even seem to occur to her that El was looking at you and not her.
After a few words of encouragement from you, Scarlet had been convinced to go over and start a conversation with the girl. El seemed a bit surprised, to say the least, when the curly-haired girl suddenly approached her, but she offered her signature flirtatious smile as she continued the conversation.
The two of them continued talking for the rest of the night, and soon enough, they announced to the rest of the group that they would be leaving early. Scarlet shot you a quick look of excitement, with a small mixture of nervousness, before slipping her hand into El's as the taller girl led her away.
You couldn't help but feel relieved that your plan had actually worked. After that night, Scarlet and El had started dating, and it seemed as if everything was going back to normal. Your best friend was finally in a relationship with a person she really seemed to like, and now, hopefully El's attention would be aimed towards her.
