Word got around pretty quickly about your date with Michael. The other teenagers that had been present at the roller rink that night were particularly shocked by the intimate scene.
You hadn't even really considered how people would react to seeing the two of you together; especially after the way he had you pinned against the railing as you clung to him desperately. It was enough to make anyone's jaw drop.
You heard people, mostly younger, whisper as you walked by them in town.
"Hey, that's the chick that went out with Michael."
"No way, really? I've never even seen her before."
"Yeah, I know. I heard she's some super quiet, nerdy type. I'm pretty sure she works at his dad's restaurant."
"Seriously? Well, that's one way to climb the ladder."
Ah yes, the observation that many people have made. You worked for Michael's father, which obviously meant that you were only dating his son in order to get into his good graces. To be the girl that tamed the beast who was Michael Afton, and therefore earn the respect of his father.
It angered you that people would assume something so horrible about you, especially when they didn't even know you. Who were they to make assumptions about your relationship with Michael? Although, you supposed it was a little suspicious. If you were in their shoes, you would probably think the same exact thing.
However, you didn't let the rumors bother you. You knew that they were probably just saying that because they were jealous; jealous that you of all people were able to see a new side of Michael.
A tiny voice at the back of your head was still trying to tell you not to trust him, and that he would eventually end up breaking your heart. However, there were thousands of other voices, much louder, absolutely geeking out about his sudden change in behavior. Who knew that Michael Afton could be such a romantic? Even if he was still a bit awkward about it.
The entire date really had seemed like something straight out of a cheesy romance movie; one that you would've never expected yourself to be the star of.
A few days had passed since then, and you were on your way to work. If you remembered correctly, today was supposed to be William's day on duty. His presence in the restaurant made you feel uneasy, for some odd reason, and you greatly preferred the days where Henry was in charge.
As you walked into the building, still about fifteen minutes before the restaurant officially opened, you were greeted by the snickering faces of two of your coworkers. One of them was Molly, the girl who had trained you on your first day, and the other was Jason, the previously nervous boy who worked at the reception desk.
You blinked a few times as they stared at you, and you awkwardly shuffled around beneath their gazes. "W-What?" You finally spoke up, "what's so funny?"
"Oh, nothing," Molly hummed innocently, exchanging a mischievous glance with Jason, "just surprised to hear about your little 'date' with Mr. Afton's son."
"Yeah," Jason chuckled, a wide smirk spreading across his face, "never would've expected sweet little (Y/N) to be hooking up with the boss' son."
You gasped softly at his words, gaze hardening into a glare as you blushed in embarrassment. "We are not hooking up," you retorted, crossing your arms over your chest, "we went on one date, that's all."
They both gave you a skeptical look, almost as if they didn't believe you. "Mhm, sure," Molly hummed.
"It's the truth!" You insisted, not understanding why they thought you were lying, "all we did was go to the roller rink, then he walked me home after."
