The purge started with the discovery of the Hearts of the Sea. The humans became greedy, wanting more and more of the magical objects. They started to hunt down the sirens with Cal Maris, however, there was no way to externally tell whether or not a siren had it. The humans hunted the sirens for years, pulling them out of the water in nets. Poisoning parts of the ocean. Soon enough, all of the sirens were dead; or so they thought. The deep sirens survived and cowered in ravines under the ocean, vowing to never interact with humans ever again.
