AFTER SPENDING THE MAJORITY OF THE AFTERNOON ASLEEP, you would have thought Alice and Will would feel much better. They still looked dead. The pair of them.
Alice didn't understand why she was feeling so bad but she did understand one thing, she had to be cold. The idea of being warm alone made her feel like death. Being cold made her feel better, much calmer, but she just didn't know why.
She also began to do things unconsciously, as if her mind was else where. She didn't remember opening her window this morning, but it was obvious she did. She had no recollection of arriving at the Byers. It all felt like a blur. However, she was awake enough to realise Will wasn't himself too. She had never seen him so quiet and that's saying something. Yeah, he's normally pretty quiet and calm on a regular day, but this version on Will was creepy. It wasn't Will.
Alice was still laying on her mattress on the floor, freshly woken up. The window was wide open letting a cold breeze into the room. The pair still hadn't spoken a word to each other since Alice arrived but all they really done was sleep. Will fell asleep around half an hour ago. His thick soft snores echoed round the room letting her know he was still sound asleep.
A loud knock startled them both caging their eyes to snap up to the door as Joyce entered the bedroom.
"Hey, you guys okay?" Joyce asked softly from the doorframe. Alice nodded at her words and Joyce studied Will who was sound asleep in his bed. She shivered as the cold temperature hit her face.
"You have another visitor." She said moving to the side to reveal another figure. Mike Wheeler, was standing tall, with the most concerned look on his face Alice had ever seen. And she thought she'd seen him worried before, from Will going missing last year to him standing at the end of her hospital bed trying to not burst into tears.
However, Mike put on a brave face and entered the room with a small smile. He wanted to be comforting and see what was up with them. Not charge in and worry them even more. He clearly underestimated Alice. She could read him like a book, even through his fake smiles and brave face.
He sat down at the end of Will's bed facing towards Alice's mattress on the floor. At first he said nothing. He thought Alice might ask him a question first. That's what usually happened, especially she since she couldn't shut her mouth even in the most awkward moments. But she didn't say anything.
"Are you, okay?" He asked breaking the tension.
Alice met his eyes. The first thing Mike noticed, was that Alice's bright blue eyes seemed to have lost their colour. They were dull and had a dark shadow to them. It made her look sick. It was almost like there was something else there, living with her.
"I'm fine." Alice huffed.
Mike let out an angry sigh in frustration pulling his hand up to comb his hair. He always pulled his hair when he was angry about something. But Mike wasn't giving up just because he was angry. Just like Alice could read Mike like a book, he could read her too. Alice Harrington hated talking about her feelings and quite frankly, Mike Wheeler was sick of it.
"Cut the bullshit, Alice. Look at you! You look like your dying." He spat angrily, but upon noticing her face fall, he softened his words. "Look, I'm sorry I've not been there for you these past few weeks, but you never talk to me about anything. I know, I suck at communicating, but so do you and by sitting there and lying to my face when I'm trying to help you isn't going to work anymore. I'm not leaving until you tell me what's going on."
