JEALRAIN MARTINEZ - FORRESTER
"ANOTHER FITZMAEL AGAIN ON THE NEWS?" Kyler asked, sounding unbearably bored as he showed us his laptop, an article about the Fitzmaels glowing on the screen.
I'd heard plenty about them from Kyler, but curiosity and I had never been close friends, so I had no idea who they actually were.
I rolled my eyes when Kyler sighed. He was always irritated whenever he saw news about that family, yet he still couldn't stop reading.
Was he stupid or what?
"What's the news this time?" Ari asked.
"According to this article, the only single man in their clan now has a girlfriend." Kyler's tone turned stern.
"Good for him. And then?"
"It says she's his first girlfriend. Can you believe that? This guy's almost thirty and only now does he get a girlfriend?" Kyler shook his head.
"Such a gossip," I muttered.
"Of course. Gossip is what Kyler and I eat for breakfast," Ari laughed as he continued eating mangoes. "Maybe his life's too happy that he didn't think about getting a girlfriend sooner."
"I heard he's family-oriented. I think that when you receive all the love you need from your family and the people around you, the thought of finding a girlfriend doesn't even cross your mind. That's probably what happened to him."
"I think that depends, Kyler. I had a girlfriend when I was six. And I'm happy with my family." Ari pouted.
"Maybe you're just flirty." Kyler laughed and shook his head.
"Uncle doesn't like them, right?"
"Yep," Kyler replied, sipping his coffee. "Uncle despised the Fitzmaels. I think it has something to do with their past."
I turned toward the mirror and fixed myself. I was planning to go to the resort to clean. I had nothing else to do anyway.
"Rain..." Kyler called.
"Hmm?" I looked at him.
"How are you feeling?"
"You're really asking me that? You know I don't want to see him."
"I can't stop Uncle from coming home. This place is his home after all."
"Home?!" My eyes shut tightly. My fists clenched. "How dare he call this place home when he doesn't even live here?!"
"I'm sorry. I was insensitive," Kyler said sincerely.
Ari hurried to my side and handed me water.
I breathed deeply. "I'm sorry too. You were just asking how I felt, but I took my anger out on you."
Kyler walked toward me and messed up my hair before leaving the house.
I watched his back as he stepped outside. Guilt sat heavy in my chest.
"You're cleaning the resort again?"
I nodded.
"Alright."
"A cheating scandal?!"
My eyes shut again when Kyler practically shouted, frowning at his monitor. Even if I didn't look at the news myself, I was always updated because he read everything out loud.
Sports results, lotto winners, you name it.
"What now? I thought you were done reading the news?" I asked.
