"Where is he? Where's the ax?" he muttered, gripping the boy's younger sister in his hands.
"Before running behind the tree, not only did he throw the rock, he threw the ax as well. So if the ax is here... where is he?"
The baffled man looked around, unbelievably noticing the sudden halt in the boy's footsteps.
He had disappeared.
---
"Where- Where am I?"
The walls were covered with an unfamiliar material, red and tainted and cut. Trailing his hand over the unfamiliar substance, the people gathered in weird clothing.
"Excuse me," a young woman with purple hair poked her head into the alleyway, noticing his flustered expression as he stared at the unfamiliar pattern on the woman's outfit.
"Ah," he bowed respectfully, "would you mind telling me where I am?"
She nodded.
"You are the next. To come over to this world. She was correct," she muttered.
"N-Next?"
The world went black.
...
"Nee-san, he's so pale," an unfamiliar voice commented.
"He traveled through time, my Kanao. I apologize for this, but he seemed in need of some help."
"He should not be our concern," she argued.
"You are right," he groaned as he sat up, "I am sorry for imposing,"
"No, no, I apologize, my younger sister is a little... out of it today," she threw a glance at the younger girl, who fidgeted with her hands uncomfortably.
"If you'd like, you may stay here for around two weeks with us," she offered, "In compensation for my sister's... insults."
He looked back and forth between the two women, who seemed both formal and stand-offish at the same time.
"I-"
"You have no where else to go, do you not? So take or leave the offer," the younger woman snapped.
"Kanao-" the older woman hissed.
"I'll... accept your offer. Until i can get back on my feet, I will stay with you,"
Holding out her hand to offer a standing guard for the young boy, Tanjiro gratefully took it as they wandered into the Estate.

"If you keep swinging that sword without any proper nutrition, your arms will fall off." Kanao rolled her eyes.
"Sorry," he apologized, taking an ongiri, "i'll take better care of myself."
Kanao simply nodded and walked off.
"The little miss is different," a group of maids had gathered at the corner of the veranda, "she didn't smack the breakfast tray today."
"Maybe the arrival of the stranger has changed her heart," a maid suggested.
"Don't be ridiculous. It takes a fool and a weak heart to fall for someone that easily." one scoffed.
"But Miss Shinobu... she said it herself," the other protested. The maids exchanged violent glares and towering words, but the crowd ultimately dispersed as Kanao came around the corner.
