How it got to be April already was beyond me. Things were slow, especially on the superhero end of things. It was almost like they didn't exist, Multiplex and Black Swan.
No sight of them at all. I was sitting in my parents old house where I found myself most days now. I look through all the books and stay until my curfew ends and come back home. I did my homework there and I found myself buying snacks to keep there.
I also started focusing on strengthening my powers and getting more used to them. I felt like I was, even when I was just by myself I let my eyes glow. It felt nice to just be me. Holding in my power when I could stay here and just walk around felt really nice.
I was definitely more comfortable with who I am now than a few months ago.
Except today I was at home as it was family dinner night and Marshall found himself at our house.
"You want to go on a late ice cream run? Asher is going to run off with Odessa... and I want some company," Marshall offered leaning on the wall.
"Yes to that and I need to get Becca a present... Can we do that too?" I asked.
I still didn't have a car. I also completely forgot her birthday party was tomorrow. I am officially just a horrible friend.
His head hung low, "Are you just using me because I have a car?"
"Yes, Asher is never around-"
"Neither are you."
He raked his hand through his dark gray hair. His eyes met mine, I hated him.
"Whatever," I said, throwing on my shoes.
He grabbed his keys off the table, "Seriously where do you go now? You have some side hoe?"
I hollered at my parents that we were leaving and I caught up to Marshall, "It's none of your business Marshall. Even if I did, you would be the last to know if I had a side hoe."
"I see more than you realize Leah... I would keep your secret..." he trailed off holding open the door for me to get in.
"Not happening Marshall," I hopped into his passenger seat, closing the door myself.
He got into his car and started it, "Fine, your secrets will eventually come to get you North. But just know I won't be the last to know. You know I'll be the first."
No he would never be the first. Marshall Alden? Never in a million years.
~~~
Alden: Am I picking you up for Becca's party?
Me: please
I hated that I had to ask last night for a ride. My friends were already going to be there before me. Not to mention most of them were on no speaking terms with me.
Odessa would be there which meant Asher would be there before me and I would rather die than be a third wheel with them. So yes Marshall Alden was my ride.
Don't get me wrong I love Marshall he just... sometimes I can't with him. That's the best way to explain it. He was like a pest I just couldn't get rid of and then ended up just keeping around and ended up loving.
That was Marshall. Even as kids that was always Marshall. Except I think I am the only one who thought that way. It was probably just good thanks for him being my brother's best friend.
Last night was fun... more than I thought. We got Becca a gift, I just made a simple basket with all of her favorite things. Marshall was fooling around the entire time. He even carried all the things out to the car and wouldn't let me.
