Chapter 24
~Jerome~
I was getting my test score back today for my first midterm and honestly, I was feeling very nervous. I hoped that I did well. I didn't really struggle on the midterm, but sometimes when I didn't struggle, it turned out I did poorly.
Even though I did extremely well on my first paper, it didn't guarantee anything. I just had to hope for the best.
We didn't get the midterms back until the end of the class, so it was a bit of a pain waiting that long. I just kept thinking about my possible mark. I wasn't even like this in high school. I wasn't all that worried about my future then since I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to university. But now that I know what I wanted to do as a career, I knew I had to take my grades seriously.
Finally, class ended. Professor Kardan would call out our names to collect our midterm and once we did, we were free to leave. I packed up my belongings while waiting for her to get to my name. It didn't take long for me to realize she was going in alphabetical order by last name, so I had to wait until she got to R.
Once my name was finally called, I threw my backpack over my shoulder before walking to the front. Professor Kardan smiled at me and said, "Great job," because handing me my test.
I looked at my test, seeing a big A on top of it. I released a sigh of relief. As it turned out, I had nothing to worry about.
I left the classroom before heading outside the building to my car in the parking lot. Because I was so excited and happy about my grade, I couldn't help but send a picture of it to Nolan. He kept assuring me that I would do well and he said to tell him the moment I got the grade.
Nolan shortly replied, and honestly his reply was no surprise at all. Nothing seemed to be able to tame his libido.
I couldn't help but chuckle at his text messages. He was just so adorable, even when he was a horny person. Especially when he was a horny person.
The moment I got home and walked upstairs, Nolan stood up from the dining table and hurried over to me. He wrapped his arms around my neck and pressed his lips on mine. I tried pulling away, only because some of his siblings were in the room, but Nolan just continued to kiss me.
"Can you not?" I heard Ryder say. "The last thing I want is to see someone kiss my siblings."
I pulled away, despite wanting to continue kissing Nolan simply to bug Ryder. Nolan didn't even seem to care what his older brother just said. He just continued to pepper kisses on my cheek before nuzzling his face in my neck.
"Someone's happy," I said. "Was school okay?"
"Mhm. Joel didn't bother to talk to me today. I think he finally took the hint that I wanted him to leave me alone. Anyway, I think you and I should go make out."
"He's trying to procrastinate," Ryder said. "Mom told him to make a wheatgrass smoothie and he hasn't done it yet."
Nolan glared at Ryder. "Snitch."
"Come on, it's not that bad," I said. "What happened to that recipe I gave you?"
"We're out of bananas," Nolan said with a pout. "The snitch ate the last one."
"Alright, you can stop calling me that now," Ryder said.
"Stay out of this, snitch," I said before looking back at Nolan. "How about we go out to a smoothie place? I know a great one where they have really good wheatgrass smoothies. One that I'm sure you'll enjoy."
Nolan smiled at me, and it was then I noticed how tired he actually looked. Normally, when he smiled, you can see it in his eyes as well. But his eyes just looked... tired. Almost empty.
I didn't want to ask him about it with his siblings around. It would almost be as if I was putting him on the spot, and that was the last thing I wanted.
I waited until we were in my car, ready to leave the parking lot to head to the smoothie place. "Are you okay?" I asked.
Nolan furrowed his eyebrows. "Yes? Why do you ask?"
I sighed. "Don't take this the wrong way, but your eyes kind of look... empty. And you look extremely tired."
"Oh." Nolan didn't reply right after. It took some time but eventually, he continued. "Just tired."
"Are you sure that's it?" I asked. I didn't want to push Nolan for an answer, but I also wanted him to tell me when he was going through something. I wanted him to know that he could always talk to me, no matter what. I wouldn't judge him.
Nolan hesitated once again before he said, "I've just been feeling weak. N-Not mentally, if that's what you're worried about. It's just recovering from sepsis is taking a huge toll on my body so I just feel like I have no energy. But I'm okay mentally. Mostly."
"Are you sure you want to go out if you're feeling weak?" I asked. "I can just quickly run to get the smoothie while you rest at home."
Nolan shook his head. "I waned to get out of the house, even if I was at school already. Besides, it means I get more time to check you out. I mean, to be near you."
I chuckled as I leaned over and kissed Nolan's cheek. "You are such a cutie. But I think you have to tone down your libido. Just a little bit."
"I'd rather not."
"Well, I tried."
