Chapter 58
~Jerome~
I threw the last bag into the trunk of my car before closing the door. There were still a bit more things Nolan and I needed to pack in the car for our road trip, but since it was all just snacks, drinks, and Daisy's stuff, we were keeping it in the backseat so we can easily access it if we needed to.
I walked back inside the house and headed up to the main floor where Nolan had just finished packing out snacks. There were two bags for snacks and one for Daisy's supplies, so I grabbed two of them while Nolan carries one and Daisy's leash.
"Is that everything?" Nolan asked me.
"Yes, I think so," I said. "If we ever realize we forgot something, we can just find a store to pick up whatever we need."
Nolan looked over at his parents, who were both in the kitchen making lunch for everyone. "Jerome and I are going to be leaving now."
"Are you sure you don't want to stay for lunch?" Poppy asked. We had already told her we were going to grab some lunch at a drive-through, so at this point I was convinced Poppy was just trying to convince Nolan to stay longer because she, and I quote, didn't want to miss her baby boy.
"Flower, they already said they're going to pick up some lunch," Grayson said. "Stop trying to convince them to stay."
"I am not," Poppy denied. "I just want to make sure they're not hungry on the trip."
"We won't be," I assured. "We have a lot of snacks too, and we'll keep them nearby so we don't have to stop the car just to grab it."
"But we're cooking bacon for lunch."
Nolan stared at his mom for a bit. "Don't try to play with my weakness."
"You can always get bacon in whatever food you pick up for lunch," Grayson pointed out.
Poppy glared at Grayson. "It's like you want him to leave."
"Or, and here's a wild idea," Grayson said, "I'm letting him just go on a road trip that isn't even going to be a week long. Nolan will be home before you know it."
"Fine," Poppy said, wiping a tear away from her eyes. "Just break my heart then."
Nolan furrowed his eyebrows. "Mom, are you okay? I'm just... I'm going on a road trip. It's not like I'm moving out of the country."
Grayson patted Poppy's back. "She's fine. You should get going so you could get to the first place on your list on time."
Before Nolan and I left, Nolan walked over to his parents to give them both a hug, reassuring them that he was going to be fine and would even text him every night and morning for an update. Poppy still seemed a bit reluctant to let Nolan leave, but she didn't try to get him to stay.
Nolan and I left the house, putting the three bags in the backseat. We got Daisy in as well, hooking her harness up to the seat. The leash for her to sit in the back wasn't too short, but it was not long enough to reach the front seats, which she would definitely try to go. Nolan might let her sit on his lap eventually, more so when she was tired, but she always tried to help me drive. And by that, I mean keep her paws on the steering wheel and make it very hard for me to drive.
Daisy didn't seem to mind too much having to sit in the back. She still had room to move around, so it wasn't like she was too constrained.
Once we were all ready to go, I started the car and pulled out of the driveway. It didn't take us long to decide what to get for lunch; we were both a bit hungry so we just went to the first drive-through we came across; Tim Horton's.
Since it was a place I go to frequently, it was easy for me to choose what to eat instead of being overwhelmed by all the menu options. I still struggled with eating from time to time, but I was doing a lot better.
Nolan and I both got a bagel, lemonade, and a donut. Well, I got one. Nolan got two because he couldn't decide between two and I couldn't say no to his cute, adorable face.
He definitely knew how to use his puppy dog eyes to get what he wanted and honestly, I didn't care. It just meant I could see those eyes because they were so cute.
The two of us just ate our lunch as I drove us to our first location, which was a campsite. We figured it would be best to go there first since we had food we wanted to use there. Namely ingredients for s'mores.
Nolan decided to be his little horny self and whenever we were at a stoplight, he just had to kiss me. Not that I was complaining. I just loved my husband so much and I would take any opportunity to kiss him.
It was going to take a bit of time to get to the campsite, so we made sure to take a few stops on the way to stretch our legs, get some fresh air, and let Daisy do her business if she had to.
I ended up finding an amazing spot by the lake for us to take a break. It was a spot that nobody was around, so Nolan and I really got to just take in the time we had for ourselves. I loved Nolan's family a whole lot and I loved living with them, but it was nice to have time for just me and Nolan.
That was why I was so excited for this trip. It was just for me and Nolan, and I guess we could technically count it as a honeymoon since we just decided to get married one day. Although, I was definitely wanting to take Nolan on a proper honeymoon one day but as for now, we're just going to enjoy this simple road trip.

it's so hard to write this book sometimes though. not because of writer's block or anything, but because i started writing in present tense now so my newest books, which i've been focusing on more, are in present tense and this is in past, so i have to switch back to past tense, but i mess up a lot lol.
