Chapter 45

~Nolan~

"You've been a lot happier than normal," Orchid said as she waited for me to put my stuff away in my locker so we could head home together. "Like... Very happy."

"What?" I asked. "No. I totally haven't. I'm just normal happy."

"Yeah, you're also a horrible liar," Orchid said. "Why are you even denying that you're happy? It's a good thing to be happy. You're making it sound like you're doing something wrong for being happy."

Wrong? Not really. A bit crazy? Probably. I didn't even know why I suggested that Jerome and I should get married, but it did make me really happy knowing that Jerome and I loved each other and vowed to always love each other.

We probably weren't going to tell anyone for a while. They would probably tell us we were insane and tell us why it was wrong, and that was the last thing I wanted to hear. Was marrying someone you love ever wrong?

"I'm not denying that I'm happy," I said. "I'm just denying that I'm very happy. I am happy. But a normal amount, like I said. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less."

"Right." Orchid's tone clearly indicated that she didn't believe me, but she didn't bother questioning me anymore.

Maybe I had been a bit suspicious in my behaviour, but it was hard to contain how happy I was feeling. It certainly didn't help that I wasn't normally a 'happy' person. On my good days, I was more content than anything.

Once I closed my locker, Orchid and I left the school to head to her car. Well, our car. Us triplets got to share one, but I never bothered to get my learner's quite yet. I had too much on my plate when I turned sixteen, and to be honest, driving kind of scared me. If I ever got over the fear, I might try to get my learner's.

The moment we got home, I was greeted by Daisy who was very happy to see me. I smiled as I crouched down to give her all the belly rubs she wanted. I had to get up eventually, but she kept pawing at my leg to signal she wasn't done with my petting.

I then noticed that Jerome was in the kitchen, trying to find something to eat. Feeling very happy to see him, I walked over to him, wrapping my arms around his shoulder before pressing my lips on his.

"Seriously, what is up with you two?" Ryder asked from where he sat at the dining room table as he worked on an assignment for his schooling. "You've been a lot more giddy than normal."

"What? We're not allowed to be happy?" Jerome asked after he pulled away from the kiss and instead pulled me into a hug. "That's very rude of you. I can't believe you want your brother to be unhappy in his relationship."

"That's not what I meant and you know it," Ryder said. He looked over at Orchid. "You noticed it too, right? They're unusually happy."

"Yeah, I know, but I don't think they're going to tell us why," Orchid said. "It's not a big deal, though. There's nothing wrong with them being happy."

"Obviously," Ryder said. "But you know me. I'm a nosy person. I'm just very curious right now and I feel like I'm being left out of something."

"Awe, sucks to be you, I guess," Jerome said. Ryder's only reply was to glare at Jerome. Jerome slightly pulled away from our hug, but he kept his arms around my waist. "How was school?"

"Good," I said. "But I kept thinking about something." I went on my tiptoes and held my lips close to Jerome's ears before whispering, "We never got to consummate our marriage yesterday."

"Yeah, I know," Jerome said. 'Quite frankly, I'm surprised you didn't bring it up then."

"I think we should do it now," I said.

Jerome ruffled my hair. "Let me eat something first."

It took Jerome a while to find something to eat and even when he did, he made his meal very slowly. I kept asking if he wanted help, but he assured me he would do it on his own. In fact, it was something he wanted to do on his own.

He didn't eat all of his meal, but he did eat most of it. He was still struggling with eating from time to time, but he tried. It wasn't something he could magically heal from anyways.

As Jerome was clearing off his plate, I said, "Wanna do it now?" in a voice quiet enough for only him to hear since Ryder was still nearby.

"I know I said that I need to eat something first, but you know why we can't," Jerome said, his voice just as quiet. "Your family is home."

"Shower. We can put music on too. No one gets suspicious when someone's listening to music in the shower."

       "Fair enough. Let's go."

When we finished, I was drying my hair when I asked, "Are you ever going to want to tell people?"

"Yeah, of course," Jerome said. "Eventually. But right now, I like that it's just between the two of us. There aren't any expectations of us being a newly wed couple. There aren't people judging our marriage. It's just us. It's nice."

I smiled at Jerome. "Yeah, I agree. Also, let's consummate our marriage again."

Jerome laughed. "I should have expected you to say that. Will you ever not be horny?"

"I mean, you're so hot, so probably not. By the way, want to be my date to my prom in, like, two months?"

"You don't even have to ask," Jerome said. "Of course I want to be your date. You were my date after all. I think it would only be fair that I go to your prom as well. Besides, if Joel is there, we get to rub it in his face that we are still very much in love. Not that I'm a petty person."

"With the way he's acting, I think it's okay to be petty," I said.
